I got out of my car and locked the doors after grabbing my bookbag from the passenger seat. I looked up at the school and sighed. How many more days did I have left of school? Well it’s October 15th now so I’d say…240 days left minus the weekends would be…160 days. Yeah, I know I’m good at math.

I walked toward the lobby and saw the usuals hanging out there. “What’s with you?” Jessie asked, leaning into Lee whose arms were around her waist. “What do you mean?” I asked, looking down at my clothes. “No. It’s just that you look…different. Maybe a little more…happy?” she replied, raising an eyebrow at her boyfriend.

Lee just shrugged. “Did you beat that game you were working on?” he asked. I shook my head. “Did you pass Mrs. Enzor’s test?” Mark asked. I shook my head. “Damn” he groaned. “Did you get something new…a gift maybe?” Hope suggested. I just shook my head once more.

“Then what is it?” Jessie shrieked in annoyance. “Nothing. I just…talked to Natalie last night” I said, yawning. They all looked at each other in confusion. “I don’t think I look different,” I mumbled. “You can’t see yourself unless you’re in front of a mirror” Hope shot back, interlacing his fingers with Mark.

I groaned as I looked at the two couples. Once again, I was the third wheel. This was actually starting to get a little anno-“Hey there”.

I turned around and my eyes widened as my jaw dropped. Natalie was wearing a pink and black skull shirt with gray skinny jeans. She had on pink and black vans and there was a small pink bow in her hair. I smiled at her and she smiled back. Showing me that amazing smile of hers again.

“Hey. Good morning” I replied, reaching out to her. She gladly walked toward me and swung her arms around my neck, giving me a hug. I hugged her back tight and was reluctant to let her go.

She looked around to my friends and cleared my throat. “Um guys. This is Natalie Hudson. Natalie, this is Lee, Jessie, Mark, and Hope” I introduced, motioning toward them. They all said ‘hi’ and she greeted them back.

“I’m guessing this is the Natalie you were talking about huh?” Hope asked, smirking at me. I looked away in embarrassment and Natalie raised her eyebrow at me. “You told your friends about me?” she asked.

“Well, all I said was that we were talking last night, which is true” I replied in my defense. Natalie smiled at me and I actually felt like pulling her toward me like Mark and Lee do to Jessie and Hope but I knew I couldn’t.

“So Natalie, how did you met our Beck?” Lee asked. “We ran into each other in the hall yesterday” she replied. “Yesterday? The way you two act I thought you’ve been friends for awhile” Jessie said, arching her eyebrows.

“Nope. Just met yesterday,” Natalie replied. She tugged at the end of my white tee shirt and I looked over at her. She pouted and I arched my eyebrows at her. “What?” I asked. “I want what you promised me yesterday!” she growled. I shook my head quickly.

“No. It’s way too embarrassing…and in front of all these people!” I protested. She frowned. “I don’t care. A promise is a promise. You’re just lucky I’m on top instead of somebody else” she shot back.

“I hope you’re not heavy or you might crush me,” I teased. She gasped. “Well, you better not grab my legs too tight or I just might” she teased back, sticking out her tongue at me. I did the same and we both started laughing.

I looked over at the others and noticed their wide eyes and dropped jaws. “What?” I asked in confusion. “What are you two talking about?” Mark asked in a panic. “Beck promised me a piggyback ride last night but she’s doesn’t feel like it right now” Natalie replied, poking me in the ribs.

I swatted at her hands and she tried to tickle me. I grabbed her hands and she leaned up and bit my shoulder. “Ow!” I yelled, grabbing the spot. While my hands were up, she attacked my ribs again.

I feel to the ground and she straddled me, tickling me mercilessly. “Ok! You win! You win!” I yelled. She smiled and leaned over me. I looked up at her and ran my hands over her hips, making her shiver.

I heard someone clear there throat and we both remembered where we were. She hopped off of me and stood up with me right next to her. “You guys seem really close for just meeting yesterday,” Hope said suspiciously. I ran my hand over my neck and just shrugged.

Luckily for me, the bell rang and I headed toward my locker. “Your friends seem nice”. I looked over my shoulder at Natalie and smiled. “They are. They’re just very protective,” I said, putting my bookbag in my locker. “Did you tell them I was…” she trailed off and looked at the ground.

I shook my head. “No. It’s none of their business if you are. Come on. Hop up” I said, crouching on the ground. She giggled and wrapped her arms around my neck. I stood up and she wrapped her legs around my waist as I carried her down the hall.

“Are you still embarrassed?” she whispered in my ear. I groaned and tried to forget about the fact that her boobs were pressed against my back. “N-No. Not at all” I replied. A few students and teachers were looking at us but I wasn’t thinking about them.

I liked Natalie. I had come to that conclusion last night. The question was how to get Natalie to like me back? We got to her homeroom and I put her back down. “How was that?” I asked smugly.

She bit her lower lip and gazed at me. “Perfect” she replied softly. I inhaled sharply as she seemed to get closer. She pulled at the bottom of my shirt again and I stepped toward her. I ran my hands over her waist and she leaned up to kiss the shoulder that she had bit.

I moaned but quickly held it back in before she noticed. I heard her giggle and she pulled away from me. “See you in Government Beck” she said giddily, walking into her class. I stood there for a few seconds and leaned against the wall.

This sexual tension was killing me! Why couldn’t I just slam her into the wall and kiss her? Oh yeah, because I’m at school.

I walked to my homeroom and sat down, noticing Melody talking to her other friend Sasha. The red head, green-eyed girl glanced over at me in disgust. I flipped her off and she rolled her eyes at me.

Dumb bitch. Why are you still in 10th grade? You’re like…18! Sasha walked away from sending one last glare in my direction. I ignored her and looked over at Melody.

“What’s going on Schmidt?” I asked, smiling at her. She smiled back and leaned over her desk toward me. “I wanna ask you a question,” she said. I raised my eyebrow at her. “Ok. Shoot” I replied, sitting up straight for once.

“Do you…do you have a thing for the new girl?” she asked in a whisper. My eyes widened and I tried not to show any emotion. “Why? Are people starting to talk?” I asked. She shook her head. “No. But Sasha said she saw her straddling you today in the lobby” she replied.

“Uh she was just tickling me and I fell over. She was just being playful,” I said. Melody sighed and I stared at her in confusion. “Although…I kinda, sorta…like her,” I mumbled. Melody’s head shot up and I jumped back in shock.

“So you do like her?” she asked. I thought about it for a minute and then nodded. “But she’s so…different” she said. I chuckled at that. “Yeah she is. But she’s a lot of fun to be around and…I don’t know. I just feel something when I’m around her. Plus, she’s into girls so I might have a chance” I said, looking around the class incase someone might have heard me.

“Is that the only reason you like her? Because she’s into girls and you might have a chance?” she asked, crossing her arms. I shook my head. “No. Of course not. I’m not that shallow and desperate. I actually do like her” I replied, wondering why Melody was acting this way.

“Well, I just don’t like it” she mumbled with a frown on her face. “You don’t have to like it Melody. It’s not your choice. I actually think I’ve found someone I wanna be with. Can’t you be kind of happy for me?” I growled, starting to get annoyed with her attitude.

She glared at me. “You just met yesterday! How can you be so sure?” she shot back. “Sometimes, you just know! I feel it when I’m with her. We talked for 5 hours yesterday! 5 hours! I have never talked to somebody that long and she’s a total stranger” I said sternly.

“Exactly! She’s a stranger. You can’t just assume that things are gonna work out!”

“I’m not! I’m trying to become closer to her, be her friend. Maybe then she’ll give me a chance because…because I actually like her”

“Beck, I just don’t want you to get hurt and you guys just might yesterday and you’re already saying you like her”

“Melody, this is my choice. So please! Stay out of it!”

She crossed her arms over her chest and huffed. When the bell rang, she walked ahead of me down the hall and disappeared. I sighed. I hate fighting with Melody but sometimes you could be as overprotective as the rest of them.

I walked upstairs and saw Natalie walking down the hall. A smile instantly came across my face and I jogged toward her. “Hey” I said, looking over at her. She looked at me and smiled. “Hey. Did you do the homework for Government last night?” she asked.

“Uh no. Club ended at 5:30. I had dinner as soon as I got home and then talked to you for 5 hours. You distracted me” I replied, smirking at her. She dropped her jaw. “I did not! You could have done your homework. Don’t blame me for you being lazy” she said, walking ahead of me.

I laughed and jogged back toward her. “I’m not. I’m just saying that a certain girl prevented me from doing my school work” I teased. “Well, another certain girl prevented me from finishing my painting for Art 3" she teased back.

“Really? Awww man. What a bitch”. We looked at each other for a second and then burst into laughter. We walked into class and headed to the back to take our seats.

Mr. L started talking again but I ignored him and looked over at Natalie’s yellow folder. There was writing all over it and I tried to read some of it but only made out my word:

Who was Kendra? Maybe it was a friend from her old school or something. I made out other things like “Natie” or “Natalicious”. Hmmm, I’ll have to keep that one in mind. There was also a picture of a sad looking girl and another picture of girl.

This girl was smiling and she had hair identical mine. I smirked at her and she quickly flipped her folder to the other side in embarrassment. I chuckled and took the folder from her.

She tried to grab it but I held it away from her and looked at the picture she drew of me. “My ears don’t look like that!” I protested, pointing at the insulting drawing.

“It’s not done yet!” she growled, snatching her folder back and holding it against her chest. She blushed a little and I smiled at her. “So…why did you draw me?” I asked, teasing her a little. “I draw whatever images are in my head at the moment and you just popped up” she replied softly.

“I thought you didn’t draw. I thought you painted,” I mocked. She frowned at me. “Gotta start somewhere right,” she said, trying to ignore me. We were silent for a bit and I started to work on the packet Mr. L gave us.

“Who’s Kendra?” I asked. She stiffened and looked back at her work. “No one” she replied. “…Is she like…a friend?” I pressed on. She glared at me and I jumped back slightly. “She’s no one Beck,” she growled. I nodded my head and realized that that question was off limits.

I continued working but I couldn’t stand not talking to her. “Natalicious…I like that” I said, not looking at her. She blushed and looked away from me. “Don’t call me that,” she said, trying to hide the smile on her face but I could see it easily.

“Why? It suits you”. I clamped my hands over my mouth after that slip up. Fuck! Why did I say that? To my surprise, she just blushed some more and whispered a “thank you”.

I put my hands back down and stared over at her as she worked. I guess Mark was right. She wasn’t like anybody else from around here. She’s… well, different.

After School

I closed my car door and locked it, walking toward my house. I saw Brandon run outside and I looked at him curiously. “Where are you going?” I asked. “To go hang out with Kylie,” he replied, running down the street. I arched my eyebrows at him.

“Who’s Kylie?” I yelled after him. “Our new neighbors. Duh!” he yelled back. New neighbors? Since when did we get new neighbors? I followed behind him as we ran to the house at the end of the street.

There was a “sold” sign in front of the house and I noticed a brunette haired girl jumping rope in the front yard. Brandon walked toward the girl and smiled at her. She smiled back and the started a conversation that I was too far away to hear.

Obviously, she asked him if he wanted to go to the back yard because they both took off in that direction. I walked toward the house and stopped on the sidewalk. I can’t believe I had never noticed new people moving in.

Well, might as well introduce myself since Brandon knows who they are. I walked up to the door and rang the doorbell. “Coming!” someone yelled from inside the house.

I stood there nervously and put my hands in my pockets. I wonder how lived in this big house? Maybe they want to my school? The door swung open and my eyes widened in shock.

“Natalie?!” I exclaimed, pointing at her. “Beck?! What are you doing here?” she asked, as shocked as I was. “I live right down the street. Did you just move here?” I asked.

“Yeah! You didn’t notice all the trucks driving past your street a week ago?” she asked. I shook my head. I truly hadn’t noticed at all. “I can’t believe you’ve been here for a whole week and I didn’t even notice,” I said, rubbing the back of my neck.

“Yeah…wait. Is Brandon your brother?” she asked. I nodded and she started to laugh. “He came here when we first moved in to say hello. Didn’t he tell you?” I shook my head and she laughed harder.

“He’s a really nice kid. He plays with Kylie all the time,” she said. “Kylie? Is she your sister?” I asked. “Stepsister but yeah” she replied. I arched my eyebrows in confusion.

“But on your profile it says that your mom has the same last name as your dad” She nodded. “My mom kept my dad’s last name. So her full name is Katherine Hill-Hudson,” she explained. I nodded and she smiled at me.

“So…do you wanna come in?” she asked, stroking her hand through her hair. “Oh! Um…yeah. Sure” I replied. She opened the door wider so that I could walk in. I walked inside and she pulled me toward the steps leading downstairs.

“Your room’s downstairs?” I asked. She nodded. “Mine’s upstairs” I replied. She opened the door to her room and I instantly noticed the zebra print walls. She had a few posters up and her bedspread matched the walls.

There was a dresser next to her window and a closet across from that. There were a few clothes on her dresser and a big mirror hanging on the back of the door. She sat on top of her bed and I smiled at her.

“Was this just an excuse to get me in here with you?” I teased, looking over at her. She bit her lower lip and looking at the floor, then looked back at me. I gulped and she slowly walked over to me.

“Where are your parents?” I asked, trying hard to breathe with her walking closer and closer. “My father is still at work and who knows where my step-mother is” she replied, wrapping her arms around my neck.

I let out a shaky breath and looked into her amazing eyes. “Natalie…what’re you doing?” I asked nervously. “I-I’m sorry. Is this bothering you?” she asked, pulling away slightly. “No!” I yelled, quickly grabbing her arm before she pulled away completely.

“I just…want you to know…that…maybe…I’m interested” I said, moving closer toward her lips. She ran her tongue over her lips and looked down at mine. “Yeah…so am I”. I held her tighter and put my lips to hers…

As the door swung open.

She jumped away from me and we both looked over at the little girl at the frame. “Oh! Sorry. I just wanted to tell you that Brandon and I are going to the park,” she said quickly.

Natalie ran her hand over her face and inhaled sharply. “Um…yeah. Yeah Ok. Be careful,” she said. Kylie closed the door and I heard her footsteps running back upstairs. Why didn’t I hear her when she was coming down? Oh yeah. I was too busy holding Natalie in my arms.

“She uh never knows really,” she said nervously. “Right” I said, looking at the ground. “Maybe I should go,” I added. She looked over at me in a panic. “I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have done that. I just…you’re so…” she looked complexed so I decided to come to her aid.

“Natalie, it’s fine. I mean, even I’ve noticed the sexual tension here. You don’t have to be so jumpy. But maybe we should you know, slow it down a bit. I’m pretty sure that if your sister wouldn’t have came in, clothes would be gone and sounds would be heard,” I said smirking.

She blushed and bit her lower lip. “So…you do like me?” she asked. I nodded. “I can’t say that I’m not interested. We should just…slow down a bit. I’ve never wanted to kiss someone so bad in my life” I replied.

She nodded. “Alright. That makes sense. Friends?” she asked, sticking out her hand. I took it and she smiled at me. “Friends” I replied. She let go of my hand and I walked toward her door.

“Where are you going?” she asked. I looked back at her. “Uh…home” I replied. She shook her head and pulled me back on the bed. “Nope. You’re gonna sit right here and watch Titanic with me” she said, sitting next to me.

I laughed as she turned the TV. “Titanic? Really?” I teased. She laughed and playfully pushed me. “It’s a good movie now shhh!” she turned the volume up and snuggled up close to me.

Maybe we could be friends…well; we could at least try until one of us broke the tension. She laid her head on my shoulder and a shiver ran down my back. Yup, something tells me that someone might be me.
