Part 1

Whenever anyone would ask me if I knew Ailee, I would always nod my head in agreement. Of course I knew her, she’s that one friend I’m the closest with. People who don't know me think that I only spend time with her because I pity her. But I don't pity her, I envy her, sort of. She is very special and has her own way of life.

Ailee Summers was born with defective legs, and has been wheelchair bound her whole life. Doctors have looked into what may have caused this to have happen, but there has never been a clear reason. I envy her, not because she has received special treatment, but because she has a different view of the world. Most of us never think of the use of our legs as a gift, when it truly is.

Ailee and I would hang out at the park that’s near my house almost everyday after school. I would help her out of her wheelchair and lower her into the grass, then I would sit next to her. If you were an onlooker, you probably couldn’t guess that her legs were paralyzed, which I bet made her feel happy. She would rest her head on my shoulder, and the two of us would just talk and laugh the whole time. When the weather wasn’t clear, I would go to her house and sit next to her in her bed and do the same thing.

Some things to say about her is her eyes, one was like a blue sky, the other emerald green. Someone who does not know her would only simply think of how it is such a spectacular phenomenon of the two different coloured eyes. But, to those who know her, she dreams of flying in the vast sky, like the birds overhead; she also loves the feeling of grass between her fingers. That is why it is truly notable about her eyes, they are the two things of this earth that she loves more than anything else. Also, her hair was like the sun, standing out in times of depression or discouragement, brightening my days just to see it, because I knew who it belonged to. She has the cutest of laughs that I have ever heard, it relaxes me more than the trickling of a calm stream in the forest.

But, even the brightest of lights can go out.
