Those onion cutting ninjas floating about

“Please Tess, open your eyes.”

Open my eyes? I wondered. Aren’t they already open?

“Tessie come on, this idiot’s been crying like a baby without you here.” A voice joked, though his voice sounded too tired for it to be anything but half-felt.

“And what were your tears from, those onion cutting ninjas floating about?” the other person snorted.

“You look like a dweeb when you cry.”

“You look like a pansy.”

“You’re a-“

“For the love of God. Stop.” I managed to croak out.

Instantly the room when silent and I felt two pairs of hands with a grip on either of mine.

“Tessa?” a voice asked hesitantly.

I managed to get enough motor control over myself to force my eyes open and then instantly closed them against the light overhead. I opened them again hesitantly and blinked until my eyes adjusted. Two pairs of heads were hovering above my own and I smiled at the two most important people in my life.

“Tessie!” my brother cried, leaning forward to wrap his arms around me gently and pressing a kiss to my forehead. “I know I’m awesome and everything, but just because I fell into a coma doesn’t mean you have to copy me.”

I laughed weakly at his conceited joke. “You idiot, if I ever fell into a coma I’d do it ten times better then you.”

“Please don’t.” Trey said wearily.

“I was so worried, that fucking bastard I could kill him all over again.” Hunter declared.

“Again?!” I demanded, pulling away slightly.

“Way to ease into that one, genius.” Trey glared at Hunter.

“What happened?” I asked, looking between the two of them.

They shared a dark look before looking back at me.

“It was all thanks to Ben that we found you.” Hunter told me. “He texted me the second he found out Sam and that bitch Lizzy took you from school, which was unfortunately already a day after you had disappeared. Trey and I were going mad trying to figure out where you had gone.”

“I almost murdered that bastard who was watching you. I can’t believe he let Lizzy seduce him into forgetting what he was supposed to be doing.” Trey scoffed, shaking his head in disgust.

“Yeah, he did.” Hunter nodded, looking mildly impressed before he turned back to me. “But Ben told us that the place was too deep in Viper territory to attempt to get you out safely, so he told us to wait until Axel took you to a different part of the city to attempt to marry you.”

Both boys scowled heavily at that and Trey’s hand tightened on mine slightly, his thumb rubbing the back of my hand.

“It was lucky for us that Ben stumbled upon you in Axel’s apartment.” Trey added on. “Not many people knew you were there and if he hadn’t seen you in that room, then Axel wouldn’t have entrusted him into the secret and we would have had a harder time finding you.”

“You and Ben stayed friends after all that happened?” I asked Hunter.

Hunter shrugged and gave me a half smile. “I didn’t tell you about it, but he was the one who helped me find my new job. He contacted me after I woke up from my coma and had been telling me a bit about what he knew Ax was up too, which wasn’t much. However he kept his connection with me very secret. His cooperation with the police on this is helping to bring down some of the higher up gang members, and in return he’s getting protection and he’s getting off on parole.”

“That’s good.” I nodded. “But I feel like you’re stalling the story, what happened after you showed up?”

Hunter rolled his eyes at my impatience and continued. “We called the police right before we came to grab you from the house in case things went bad and we brought some friends to wait outside in case we needed immediate back up. They all scattered when the cops showed up, though. Axel pushed you at Trey and shot you, luckily he missed any serious organs, and the second you were out of his arms I shot him through the head.”

My eyes widened and I covered my mouth with my hand. “Ax is dead?”

Hunter pursed his lips, his eyes narrowed, and nodded.

“Are you going to jail?” I whispered.

Hunter shook his head. “Self-defense.”

I closed my eyes in relief, squeezing Hunter’s hand tightly.

“The police came right as you were being shot and they fired shots of their own, one hit Axel in the back and the other hit Sam who was trying to shoot me. He’s alive, but being tried for a bunch of crimes and will probably get a lot of jail time.”

“I’m so glad you guys are okay.” I sighed.

“What did Axel tell you right before he threw you towards me?” Trey asked.

“He wanted us to die together, and then forever be with each other in hell. And he wanted me to die in your arms so that you suffered as well, knowing there was nothing you could do to save me.”

Trey scowled heavily, pulling me a bit closer to him.

“Luckily he was either a poor shot or he tried to puncture an organ rather than ruin your pretty face.” Hunter scoffed.

“How long have I been here, and when can I go home?” I asked.

“In a day, maybe.” Trey said. “And you’ve been here for two days. You were in surgery for one of those, they had to go in and remove the bullet and staunch some bleeding.”

“Can I walk?” I asked. “I’d like to go visit Arthur while I’m here, it’s been a while.”

“Sure, we can get you a wheelchair.” Trey nodded. “I’m sure he’ll be happy to see you, he was asking how you were. He actually asked me to tell him when you were up, he was very worried.”

Hunter went and grabbed a doctor who gave me a quick examination and pronounced me past any danger, and then a nurse brought us in a wheelchair. Trey wheeled me into Arthur’s room and I introduced him to my brother for the first time. Arthur stared pointedly at Trey and my conjoined hands until we finally admitted to dating, and he laughed loudly and made Trey promise to name our first child after him, which made Trey laugh, me blush and Hunter to sputter awkwardly.

After a few hours of talking and laughing together, both Arthur and I were exhausted and Trey took it upon himself to declare it my bedtime and we said our goodbyes, Arthur kissing me on the cheek.

“I knew you two would be perfect for each other from the moment I met you.” Arthur whispered to me with a smile.

“Thank you.” I told him, feeling immensely fond of the man.

Trey wheeled me back to my room and they both carried me back to the bed, acting like mother hens over me even though my gunshot wound only hurt intensely when I moved a lot.

It wasn’t until later that next day when they came back that I heard the news. Arthur had died in his sleep that night, finally giving in to the cancer. Trey and I held each other as we both cried, both sharing in the loss of such a wonderful man. The funeral was scheduled for later that week and luckily I was out of the hospital by the time it happened and Trey wanted me to sit next to him during it.

Hunter came as well, even if he’d only met him once he also felt a certain debt towards the man who had been almost a safety line for me when he was in a coma. They sat on either side of me and helped me around when my side decided to send twinges of pain down my side.

When it was over, we went back to our apartment and Trey helped me to my room. Right as he was about to leave I grabbed his arm.

“Stay?” I asked, my eyes pleading.

“I don’t think your brother would like that.” Trey said, though he made no move to leave.

“I don’t care, you help keep the bad dreams away.”

Trey searched my face briefly before he nodded and gave me a soft smile. He took off his shirt and jeans and slipped under the covers with me, gently so as to avoid nudging my bandages he pulled me against him and I snuggled against his chest. He drew small designs on my skin with his finger and pressed a kiss against my neck.

“I know I said it to you when you were lying in my arms right after getting shot, but I just want you to know that I meant it. Every word. I love you, Tessa.”

I moved back slightly so that I could look into his eyes and he could see my smile.

“And I know I said it when I was in a haze of pain, but I love you too, Trey.”

Trey’s answering smile was blindingly beautiful and he leaned forward to press a chaste but heartfelt kiss against my lips before pulling away, he’d been acting almost irritatingly gentle with me but I could understand why with my injury.

I pushed myself deeper into my arms and pressed a kiss to his chest before I just rested my head against it, closing my eyes and letting myself fall into a dreamless sleep.
