(II) Chapter 2 (The Last Step)
On a morning that same week, I’d prepared breakfast and after serving all the guards, I went up to Anthonio’s room with his food on a tray.
I knocked twice and even though he did not reply, I went in.
He wasn’t inside but his bed was messed up. I put the tray down and decided to fix his bed. I took my time to beautifully make it up. Every sheet white.
Once I was done, I got tempted to clean his entire room. It was going to be a surprise for him and so I rushed downstairs to get the cleaning materials before returning to his room and starting the work.
I swept his room and cleaned the balcony’s glass doors, as well as the windows. Everything was neat.
I was going to arrange his drawers, but when I turned, I had a mini heart attack.
Standing at the door was a member, all covered from head to toe as usual.
I froze, not knowing what to say. I hated these people and everything about them. What did he want??
“You.” he started and I gulped.
“Y– yes Sir? Do you need anything?” I stammered.
“What you are trying to do will not work.” was his confusing reply.
“You are being warned. For the first and last time.”
I was not only confused, but I was frustrated as well. I felt a lump in my throat. What was he talking about?
“H– have I done anything wrong?” I asked, fear taking over my senses.
He gave me no reply and instead, turned and left. I stood there, my palms white and cold. Had he threatened me? What for?
I stared at the open doorway that led into the dark halls, for about five minutes. Trying to understand. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t even notice when Anthonio appeared at the door.
His voice woke me up. He was staring at me like he was trying to see through me.
“What’s wrong with you?” he asked, coming in and closing the door behind him.
“Me?” I stammered, forcing a smile, “Nothing. I decided to surprise you by cleaning your room. But you arrived even before I could finish.”
He frowned a little.
“You’re not telling me everything. What’s wrong?” he asked again.
“Why do you think there’s something wrong?”
He approached me.
“Because when I walked up to the door and saw you in my room, I smiled. You didn’t smile back.”
“Nor did you react until I called your name.”
I was silent for a short while. He spoke again.
“I won’t force you to tell me. You’ll do so when you want.”
“Good. And oh–” he said, looking around, “Thanks for the work you’ve done so far. You’re a darling.”
A darling. A smile appeared on my face and he smirked.
“Don’t smile too much. You look stupid.” he teased and I laughed.
“I never look stupid. I’m always sexy.” I bragged playfully. He smiled and didn’t say something offensive. Surprising me.
“You’re not going to contradict me?” I asked with a smile.
“I have to shower right now. If you’ll excuse me.”
“Hm. Fine. Can I ask you something?”
“When will the boss be absent in the coming days? Along with other members?” I asked.
′So I would know when exactly to pounce on you.′
“Just asking. I feel comfortable when they’re all away.”
He stared for a while, and then he narrowed his eyes.
“Why do I feel like there’s some other reason other than the one you just gave me?”
“Are you always so doubtful?” I mused.
“Yes. Especially when it comes to you.”
“Don’t worry, there’s no other reason, baby. I simply wanted to know.”
He stared for another while before finally giving in.
“He might be leaving tomorrow. I don’t know how many members will follow him.”
“As long as he’s away, I’m fine. Thanks.”
Immediately that monster was away, I would make Anthonio give in to my seduction. Whether he wanted it or not. He had to keep one thing in mind, never to underestimate the power of a woman.
“I’ll leave you to shower, now. I wonder when you are ever going to invite me.” I said, picking my broom up.
He was silent. I smiled and walked past him. He watched me till I left his room. I’d warned him earlier. He was halfway into my den and now was the perfect time to prey on him with the boss away.
