Chapter 64 (The Beginning)

I lay in my room coughing and rubbing my neck. He’d strangled me for real and if it hadn’t been by chance that he let me go, I would’ve probably been dead.

I was about to sleep when Leandro walked into my room. I smiled and sat up. He smirked and came to sit close.

“You– you came earlier than expected. You were supposed to arrive tomorrow right?”

“Yes, but I’m here today and I was right to come today. Lay and have some rest. Try not to cough too much. Velma will be bringing some food and water up to you.”

“Thank you so much.”

“Don’t mention. Here.” he gave me a little transparent jar with some greenish powder in it.

“What’s that?”

“What I told you I’d bring. You’re in charge of giving it to him. Put some in a glass of water and give him after every meal. If you don’t make him take it, he won’t. He’s lazy when it comes to his own wellbeing.”

“M– me? But you’re here and he’ll never allow me.”

“I might not be here in the upcoming days. I have something really important to do. However, I’ve taken care of those drugs he was inhaling. I bet everything will be fine now.”

“I hope so too.”

He stood up.

“I’ll see you later. I have something to do.”

I watched him leave.

A few minutes later, Velma walked in with a tray of food. I smiled at her.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. How are you feeling?” hhe asked, sitting.

“I’m very okay.” I smiled, taking the glass of water on the tray.

“I don’t know what to tell you. Anthonio is not someone you can joke with dear. You almost died today.”

“I almost died a lot of times. A lot. So he doesn’t scare me. Not at all. If I’m quiet at times it’s cause I don’t want trouble. I have nothing to lose. I’m not afraid of him. As for the dying issue, I died a long time ago. I died the day I was arrested. And so, he can fuck off for all I care.” I ended, realising that talking about him was enough to get me annoyed.

Velma stared silently at me. Her expression empty.

“You hate him then?” she asked, staring at me so much that I flinched a little. Velma was strange at times but I got used to it. Everyone in that house was strange from time to time. Including me. I mean, I banged my head against the wall once, right?

“Do you?” Velma asked again.

I looked at her.

“I wish I did. But I’m in love with him.”

A little smile appeared on her lips.

“Good. That means you won’t give up. You’re a strong girl. And I appreciate it.”

“Thank you.”

We were discussing about other things when there was a knock at the door.

“Come in.” I said.

The person opened the door and it appeared to be Anthonio. He’d just showered and had changed his clothes. He stared at Velma and she stood up immediately, excusing herself and leaving the room. Guess Anthonio had to learn some respect too.

I adjusted when he walked up to the bed. Then he took a chair close by and sat down close to the bed. My heart beat increased because I didn’t know what he’d come for. To argue with me or even continue what he’d started in the exercise room. His expression was vague! Unreadable.

I got uncomfortable. But then he finally said something.

“How are you?”

His question surprised me.

“Fine...” I replied slowly.

“Okay.” he stared again and I flinched.

“I’m sorry.” he added to my greatest surprise.

“Y– you already apologized. Remember?”

“I wasn’t sincere. Now I am.”

“I’m sorry if I tried to kill you. Again.”

I watched him silently.

“I forgave you from the moment you let go off my neck.” I replied with a little smile.

“Oh well, that’s fine.” he replied.

“Yup.” I smiled.

Seemed my smile was contagious because he gave me a sexy one-sided smile, flaunting part of his white teeth. He was just so handsome.

“I have something more to say.” he added.

“I– I know I have a problem. A serious one that gets Leandro really angry with me. And I hate when he’s angry with me.”

“I’ve told him several times that I want to change. But it’s not easy. I told him the same thing after I’d tried to strangle you. And do you know what he told me?”

I wondered where this was going.

“That if I really wanted to change, I should meet you. I don’t know why he said that. But if you can help me be a little more normal, then here I am.” he ended.

I couldn’t believe my ears! Yes! I felt like jumping but of course I had to control myself.

“Of course I’ll help you.”

“And for a start, how about you hug me?”

I couldn’t let such an opportunity pass me by!

Not caring one bit, I opened up my arms. Anthonio stared at me.

“Cmon. Don’t you want to change? The first step is for us to be friends. You’re my kidnapper, yes. But I don’t care. Cmon.”

For a moment I thought he might refuse or reject me. I was wrong. Everything seemed so unreal as I watched him get up from his chair and bend towards me, his arms open. This was it! It was gonna be a real hug and not an accidental one where I tripped and fell into his arms.

I felt so relieved when I wrapped my arms around his neck. We hugged for about four seconds and then he stood straight.

“I hope this shit you make me do will help in some sort of way.” he shook his head.

“It will.” I chuckled.

“Hmm. Because if it doesn’t, then I’ll kill you.” he replied in a serious tone, causing the smile on my face to fade. He smirked.

“You should see your face.” he mused and I laughed nervously.

“Uh, it’s because I don’t know if you meant what you just said.”

“That depends on what happens in future. Okay?”

“You can be a good girl when you want to.” he smiled a little, “Catch you later.”

I watched him turn and leave my room.

I couldn’t help it but smile to myself. Things were gonna work out fine now. It was just the beginning. The start.
