Chapter 57 (Calmed)

Leandro led me down the dark hallway. I was shivering and still very afraid.

“The lights...” I muttered.

“Surely the work of that spy.” Leandro replied slowly. His hands on my shoulders, he led me to his room.

“There’s warm water in the bathroom to freshen up a little and clean the blood off you.” he said smoothly. “Really sorry you had to see all that.”

I nodded, suddenly speechless.

“I’ll be going to a different room. Try to find sleep.” he told me before going out. I stood at the centre of the room in darkness. I put on one of the lamps in his room before heading for the bath. What had just happened to me was something I wouldn’t easily forget.

His bathroom was slightly bigger than mine. I turned the shower on, mixing the cold water with hot. Then I removed my blood stained clothes.

I took a quick shower and it’s only after I was through that I realised I had nothing to wear. Nothing at all. I saw a towel hanging not very far away. Having no choice, I dried myself with it then walked out of the bath. I headed for the wardrobe but found no clothes in it. I wondered where Leandro kept his clothes.

After searching for clothes in vain, I gave up, letting the towel I had on drop to the floor. I then walked to the bed and hurriedly got under the sheets, naked.
About forty minutes passed and I just stared around at the dimly lit room, unable to find sleep and shivering because of cold. I was still shaken because of what had happened. I had a feeling that someone would still try to kill me.

I was staring at the door when it slowly got open. Anthonio stood there, staring at me.

“How are you?” he asked with that expressionless face of his.

“I– I can’t sleep.”

“You should.”

“I can’t.” I whispered, “Not after all I saw tonight.”

He stared for some time and walked in, coming close to the bed. He looked down at me and I flinched.

“You’re shivering.” he said.

“I’m still afraid, cold and naked.” I muttered.

He was silent, but then to my surprise, he stepped closer to the bed.

“Take my T-shirt off.” he suddenly said.

“Take it off and wear it. It’s clean. I put it on to go and bury that body. My hands are covered with dirt and so I can’t take it off.”

I stared silently at him. Then I sat up, holding the sheets against my chest with a hand. He watched me silently.

I got on my knees and tucked the sheet under my arms so it won’t fall off, though I wouldn’t care if it did. He bended a little.

Carefully, I held his T-shirt and began to raise it. The simple action was enough to send some sweet electric feeling from my brain to my loins.

He raised his arms and I took the T-shirt over his head, watching his muscles flex.

“Thank you.” I murmured, staring up into his eyes.

“Cover yourself now.” he whispered.

“I’ll be downstairs if you need me.” he added and turned to leave. I grabbed his wrist.

He turned to me.

“Stay. At least till I sleep. Please.”

He was silent for a while.

“I need to wash my hands.”

“There’s water in the bathroom.” I replied quickly.

“Okay.” he went to the bathroom and closed the door behind him. I felt relief wash over me. I hurriedly put his T-shirt on me. It smelled like him. It was almost like he was hugging me. I lay down and covered myself once more.

At that moment, Leandro appeared at the doorway.

“Where’s he?” he whispered, referring to Anthonio.

“Okay. Promise to get some sleep.”

“I promise.”

“Alright.” he carefully closed the door.

Some minutes later, Anthonio came out and walked up to the couch where he sat down, staring at me. I stared back.

“You can sleep. I won’t close my eyes until you do.”

I smiled a little.

“T– thanks.”

He didn’t answer but I was used to it. I smiled and closed my eyes. After about ten minutes, I was carried away in deep sleep.

I woke up later that morning. Never had I slept so well. I stared at the ceiling, waiting for my vision to adjust. When it did, I looked towards the couch and to my surprise, Anthonio sat right where I’d left him the night before, still staring at me. I sat up.

“Good morning.” I told him.

“Good morning.”

“Did you sleep?” I asked.

“You’re the concern here. Not me.” he replied, standing.

“Thank you, again.”

He nodded and started to walk towards the door.

“Your T-shirt.” I said and he turned.

“You can keep it. I’ll ask they bring you breakfast.” he replied and left the room. I smiled to myself. I loved him. I loved him so much and I would get him to love me back.

After a shower and good breakfast, I still put on his T-shirt and lay on the bed. I didn’t feel like leaving that room and I wanted to spend the whole day in bed.

I closed my eyes to rest for some minutes. I opened them after thirty minutes.

“Aaah!” I screamed a little. Leandro was kneeling and had put his head on the drawer close to the bed and was staring at me like the first time he’d spoken to me. Only difference now was the little smile on his lips.

“Hello.” he said and I smiled, sitting up.

“Hey, you always scare me. For how long have you been here?” I asked, amused.

He got up and sat on the bed.

“If I tell you, you’ll probably think I am crazy, which I already am.”

“You’ve said it yourself.” I answered and he chuckled.

“You slept well?”

“Very well. Thanks for asking.”

“Good. I want you to forget everything that happened yesterday. You weren’t supposed to see that.”

“I know.”

“These guards are morons. Seriously. Most of them were asleep last night and didn’t see a thing!” he exclaimed and I laughed.

“As long as I’m alive, it’s fine.”

“Right. I found something in my bag today.” he said, searching his pocket.

“Your bag? I was looking for your clothes yesterday.”

“Oh, I took it to Anthonio’s room.”

“Oh, okay.”

He took what seemed to be a picture from his pocket. I stared.

“Your prince.” he mused, giving me the photography, “I’ve had it for a long time. He was fourteen.”

I looked at the picture and my heart melted once more.

I looked down at the photography of a fourteen years old Anthonio. Those same eyes and empty expression. Unreadable but so handsome.

“Oh my gosh. I love it.”

“Yeah, he was still a stud. This was the Anthonio I knew. This picture was taken a few months before his dangerous consuming of drugs that almost killed him some years later. This is the guy I want you to bring back. Keep it.”

“Really?” I looked up at him.

I smiled.

“Thanks. He has always had that expressionless countenance. I thought it was because of the drugs but it’s just part of him.”

“Yes. So when I leave Donnica, and Anthonio gets all rough again, look at this picture and remember you have to bring him back. I’m counting on you.”

“You have my word.”
