Chapter 30 (Attacked)

He watched me silently till I finished my meal.

“Good.” he said, standing to take the tray from my laps. I stared at the way his muscles flexed as he did. Damn, he was good looking. I found myself staring at his body. I was probably truly losing my mind because I found him attractive.

“Hmm, why does it seem like you care about my being?” I found myself asking with a tease. He looked up at me.

“I’m doing this because the boss said if something happens to you, we’ll all go down for it.”

“You want me to believe you’re afraid of the boss? Lies. Anthonio you fear no one on this planet.” I replied.

“Think what you want.”

I looked at him leaving the room.

“What’s up with you, girl?” I asked myself right after he walked out.

’-You’re losing it.-′

“Why does it feel like I’m trying to flirt with a murderer?” I asked myself again.

I tried to shake the thoughts out of my head but I couldn’t lie that I was beginning to find him more and more attractive with each day that passed.

’-Don’t worry, you’ll escape someday.-

I’ll escape...someday. When? How? I can’t take this anymore.′

The next morning, I got up earlier than usual. By five forty in the morning, I was up. Having nothing to do, I wore my robe and left my room to go stroll.
-
I started walking down the hall in a direction I’d never taken before. I decided to try and open all doors to see the ones , that’d open up.

I started my little game but was disappointed when most of the doors were locked. I didn’t give up though and continued to try all the rest.

I reached a certain door that was slightly open. Instead of opening it completely, I peeped through the little crack and my breath caught up in my throat.

It was a sports room or a personal gym rather, with all the necessary equipment.

Anthonio was lifting weights and did not know I was spying on him. I couldn’t help it but stare.
His muscles. His arms, stomach and every other thing! I seemed to be paralyzed as I watched him lift those weights for about five good minutes.

He was soon done and dropped the weights before sitting up and pulling the earphones he had on, out of his ear.

I should leave!′

I thought but remained glued to the spot.

He got a towel nearby and began to wipe his body. Goosebumps took over my skin and my heart skipped a beat.

What is happening to me?′

Recently, I always had the same reactions in my body when he was around.

‘-You shouldn’t be here spying on this idiot that destroyed your life, girl.-’

I could hear my subconscious. I shook my head but then looked through the little opening again. I didn’t see him. I tried look around the room but couldn’t.

To my surprise, the door opened and I froze like a dumbass. Anthonio looked down at me.

“Finished spying on me?” he asked with that empty expression of his.

“Not really,” the words left my mouth like I couldn’t control my tongue. My eyes widened in surprise. Maybe I’d hit my head so hard against that wall that it was making me go crazy.

Anthonio looked at me and I saw amusement linger in his eyes.

“Did you take your medicine yesterday night?” he asked.

“Uh, yeah. I don’t feel the pains anymore.”

“Fine. Go back to sleep. Why are you up at this time?” he asked

“Because.” was my plain reply.

He shook his head.

“Go downstairs.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t want you here.”

“Wow,” I scoffed, “Always so cold. Bye then.” I turned and walked away. It surprised me too how I was getting used to his rude way of being.

Velma laughed as I told her what had happened that morning. I rarely saw her smile or laugh but when she did, it could warm a heart.

“I froze. Well I don’t even know why I was spying on him.” I said with a little laugh, trying to act like I was still living a normal life.

Velma turned to me.

“Do you wanna know what I think?”

“Yeah.”

“You’re beginning to like Anthonio. But you refuse to accept it because you keep remembering all he’s done to you.”

I remained silent because what she’d just told me sounded like complete crap. She smiled.

“Why are you smiling? You’re wrong. Completely wrong. I just find him handsome but I hate him.”

“You think? If you really hated him, you wouldn’t find him attractive at all.” she mused. I was about to reply when Anthonio walked into the kitchen. He was going to ask Velma a question when his phone rang.

He picked it up.

“Hello?... What?...okay...yes sir.” he cut the call and turned to us and in a rather calm matter, he said,

“Follow me.”

Velma and I looked at each other, lost.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Do as I say!” he ordered in a louder voice.

We immediately left what we were doing and followed him into the leaving room.

“HEY!” he shouted, getting the attention of most of the guards around. When they all turned to him, he yelled,

“Siamo sotto attacco, dire agli altri! Loro sono qui! Ora vai! (We are under attack! Tell the others! They are here! Now go!).”

I didn’t here a single word as he spoke in Italian. But I knew something was wrong. Really wrong. Because the guards around got agitated and were running up and down with their guns.

Anthonio turned to Velma and I. He was about to say something when,

BOOOOM!!

We all went down, covering our heads when a bullet was shot.

“VELMA TAKE HER TO THE JET!” Anthonio shouted.

Velma immediately grabbed my hand and we began to run towards the back door. We were being attacked. But by who?

“RUN, DEAR! RUN!” Velma screamed as she pulled me along. Guns were heard and some bullets were shot into the house, breaking the huge windows.

I was scared to death.
