Today’s the day my boy turns 3. Walking into the discovery zone, I scanned the area. There were kids everywhere, on the walls, the floor, the ceiling? It’s like a war zone here.
“Mommy, is daddy coming?” I turned my head to that sound of the voice I missed so much.
There he was, with Ally, Charlie and who the hell is he. Another guy whose hand is on her shoulder, my baby girls shoulder. Vile rose through my throat. I was seeing red. Calming my self I walked to my birthday boy with a gift wrapped present in my arm. “Daddy.” Xan came running to me.
Ally had a look of shock in her face. Charlie was being Charlie and the new guy had the smug look on his face like he knew something I didn’t.
“Hi daddy, is that for me?” The look in his eyes melts my heart. I bent to his level, “Happy birthday.” I handed him the gift.
“Mommy look what daddy got me?”
“I see that.” She smiled at Xan.
“Can I open it?”
“Maybe later okay hon.”
“Okay Mommy.” Allison slowly walked up to me, “What are you doing here?”
“Can we talk?” The new guy looked at me, I could tell he didn’t like me being too close with her. I don’t give a crap.
Allison nodded and turned to Charlie, “Could you look after Xan for a while?”
We sat outside where it was just me and her, “Baby girl...”
“Don’t call me that, you lost that right.”
“I can explain please.”
Raising her arm, she slapped me, “How could you?”
I knew she was going to do that, “Please Ally...”
“No! This is not what married life’s about. You don’t just have sex with other people. We made a vow did we not?” Her voice was cracking.
“Please let me explain.”
“There is nothing for you to explain.”
“Please just listen.” I begged.
“Let me sum it down for you, you had sex, now your having a baby. Did I miss anything else?”
I guess there is no more room for explanation now is there. “I love you.”
Ally stared at me, “Love, Ha! Don’t give me that bull shit. Maybe you should redefine what love is.”
“Ally...” My tears were threatening to come out but I held them in.
“We could make this work, we could...”
“I do not want me and Xan to come second place in your life.”
“What no, you and Xan will always be first.”
“Really,” she challenged, “What happens when your new baby needs you and your son at the same time, who would you choose. I don’t want to be the bad guy here but I don’t want Xan to feel he has to compete with his fathers love.”
“Never, I will love him forever more just like his beautiful mother.”
I saw the tears in her eyes, “I don’t want to share you with another woman.”
“Serena and I aren’t together.”
“She is the mother of your child or did you forget that. Even if you and her aren’t together there will be always something more like someone there.”
My heart felt like it was shattering, I might as well give her a sledge hammer, “No! You are the mother of my son, you are the one I want carrying my children.”
“I’m an attorney. I have dealt with child custody cases and divorces. I have seen where a child is being used by either side and I know Serena’s type. She is the kind who will use her child just to get you. I don’t want to feel insecure and wonder if you are with her playing family.”
She quickly turn around to leave, “Leave now before we say or do something we might regret.”
As I saw her retreating back, I snaked my arms around her waist pulling her towards me, pressing her against my chest, “No. You hear me. I let you go once and that was my mistake, to let you walk away from me will be the end of me. So no, you are not leaving me ever.” I was practically groveling.
“Please let me go. I am asking you.”
I tightened my grip on her, “No, you are mine, I want you and Xan not Serena and her baby.”
“It’s your baby too.”
“More like I was just a sperm donor.”
“Are you saying you wont be apart of your babies life?”
“I will support he or she but no I wont be apart of its life.”
“Xander its any innocent baby you can’t do that.”
“I can when I have no feelings for it.”
“You say that now but when you carry him or her in your arms its a whole different story, you will soon forget about me, forget about us.”
I was getting frustrated. How can I make her see, “How do you expect me to love a child when I know that that child will be the reason for my failed marriage.” I had yelled, I didn’t mean too it just came out. Flipping her around I saw the creased on her forehead.
“Why are you yelling at me? Don’t get angry at me. Whose fault was it. Everything was your fault. You left me. If you never left me in the first place we wouldn’t be in this situation.”
She was right. She started to walk away from me again but I grabbed her hand. She stopped to look at me when my phone suddenly rang. Looking at the caller ID it was Serena.
“Aren’t you going to answer it. I know its her.” I hesitated, “Well go on...”
I answered the phone, “Alexander where are you? We have a doctors appointment today, you said you’re going to take me.” She screamed that Allison could hear her.
“Serena I’m busy.”
“Alexander you should go, she needs you.”
“Are you will that attorney right now. Baby boo our baby needs you.”
“I said no, you can make do without me there.” I hung up the phone.
“Ally, I will fix this please believe me.” I was actually crying.
“A paternity test? I can do one right now. I would never be that careless.”
“You really believe it’s not yours?” She shook her head, “You can’t do a paternity test now. It’d be dangerous for the baby, you have to wait 9 months.”
I knew it. “Will you wait till then?”
“Sorry no, I will not wait around while you go to doctors appointment and spend more time with her. I will not waste my time waiting for you. It will only harden my heart to see you share the same bed, the same house so no.”
That got me thinking, “Move in with me.”
“You heard me?”
“But you live with Serena.”
“So, will have our room together, Xan will sleep next door. And Serena will just have to deal.”
“I don’t know....”
“Please just give me a chance, and I will fix everything.” I kissed the back of her hand.
“Do you remember when we were kids, and we’d play house with other kids our age, it will be just like that, please so let’s play.”
She smiled, “I remember, okay let’s play. But she better not lay a hand on Xan.”
I know its wrong of me to do this but if I had stayed with her in Ally’s apartment Serena will only get desperate, and I won’t know what she would do. At least with Allison around I can be around her 24/7, watch and protect her and Xan and keep an eye out for Serena.
“By the way, whose the douche bag?”
“Who, you mean Colton? He’s Charlie’s brother. Why are you jealous.” Her lips smirked.
“Maybe, I wanted to bash his face in for touching my girl.”
“He’s nothing to worry about.”
The rest of the afternoon, we celebrated Xan’s birthday. A truck load of more gifts had come in. I practically ordered the whole toy catalog.
Later that evening Charlie and his brother help move Allison and Xan’s things over to my home where our room was also set up.
“Wow, your place is nice.” Allison complimented.
“Just wait till we get our own place. It’ll be even better.”
“You mean our own house?”
Just then Serena had stomped down the stairs, “What the hell is all this and what the hell is she doing here.”
“Watch your mouth!” Ally picked up Xan.
“Serena, Allison and Xan are moving in with me.”
“What! Alexander no! She can’t...this is our house. You can’t invite anyone here.”
“Correction this is my house and you are free to move out.”
“No, and let you and this bitch play house, I don’t think so.”
Serena seductively walked to me, “Fine, she can hear me scream your name when we get it on.”
“Sorry but the only screaming there’d be is coming from Allison’s mouth. I’m sleeping with her.”
Serena looked pissed as she attempted to jumped on Allison but I grabbed her and throw her off, gently of course, “You can’t do this. You homewrecker.”
“I grow tire of this, I’ll see you later Xander.” Ally kissed me on the cheek grab Xan and headed up stairs.
“Alexander, I don’t believe this and you let her call you Xander.” Her arms crossed.
“Is that baby really mine?”
“What the hell kind of questions is that? Of course its yours.”
“I want a paternity test after its born.”
“What, ” For a moment she looked scared, “Alexander this baby is yours honest.” She grabbed my shirt sobbing.
“Still I want that paternity test.” With that I left her stunned.
