They say she was joyful as a child, full of light and energy. But after that day, after they found her, she was never the same. Serena couldn't be touched, else she would scream. Her nights were filled with never-ending nightmares. Most nights, she was afraid to sleep. The times she did, she screamed and cried and begged for mercy, all while her parents watched, helpless. In an attempt to change her anti-social ways, they send her off to summer camp, along with her brother Noah. There she is introduced to Skyler, the boy who's scent is so strong and appealing, the one boy she has made it her life goal to avoid.

Prologue

The little girl ran through the woods, giggling as she went. She had finally escaped her nanny. She could go anywhere she wanted to go and there was no one to tell her no.

She grinned as if she was the bestest person in the world.

Little did the girl know, she had crossed over the Pack’s territory and was now in Rogue lands. She didn’t know until a man approached her, someone she had never seen before, and she knew everyone in her Pack.

At first, she thought he might be visiting. “Are you lost mister? Do you need any help?”

She didn’t know that the smile he gave her was not a friendly smile, but an evil one. “no, I don’t believe I am. But what about you? Are you lost? You seem a little too young to be out here on your own.”

The little girl put her hands on her hips. “I’ll have you know that I am six years old mister, I’m a big girl now. And shhh, I ran away from nanny and I’m not supposed to be wondering around the woods alone. Don’t tell my mommy and daddy, I don’t want to get in trouble.”

“I promise I won’t tell anyone,” the Rogue said, “Hey, do you like flowers? I know this really pretty field with lots of flowers.”

“Really mister?! I love flowers,” she cried out with joy.

“Follow me.”

The little girl followed, unaware that what happened next would change the rest of her life.

The Rogue did not lead her to a field of flowers. No, what he did was much, much worse. Her screams went unheard as the Rogue defiled her. She screamed and cried and begged him to stop, but he didn’t until he was satisfied. Then he left her there.

The little girl managed to crawl into a lake nearby, where she scrubbed and scrubbed her skin once she had stopped crying. Then she found a small cave in which she curled up in.

It took them three days to find her. Three miserable days.

And when they found her, they did not find the girl they were expecting.

This little girl screamed every time someone got too close to her. It took them hours to convince her to leave the cave.

The little girl they found didn’t let anyone touch her. The moment someone did, she would start screaming and fight to get away.

The little girl they found had terrible, terrible nightmares. Her nightmares were so vivid it felt real. She would scream herself awake and then scream even more when one of her parents tried to touch her. So her parents stayed by her side, feeling helpless. They couldn’t help their little girl.

The little girl they found was forever changed.

The little girl they found would never be the same.
