Romance / Thriller

I looked out of the window as we drove out of Watson Enterprise, watching the buildings pass by. The sun was slowly setting, the sky colored in a mixture of orange, yellow and green.

“Geez, woman. It still hurts.” he scowled, rubbing his now bruised arm where I pinched him earlier in the office, hard.

“You deserved that, idiot” I hissed at him. I looked back out the window, this time focusing on my reflection, an angry and narrowed eyed women was staring back at me.

“C’mon Lia. I wasn’t flirting with her. I bet she won’t even last for a month with her behavior.” he said, an exasperated sigh leaving his mouth.

“Oh really? So your plan was to flirt, give her hope and fire her. And what was that? You’ve got a nice figure, Miss Whatever- her- name was” I said in a rough male voice. Logan rolled his eyes.

“That was just a compliment. I don’t see her in another way. After all, she’s my personal assistant. The reason why she is in this job is because she does all her work correctly, she is punctual and she makes every work easier for me to deal with. Something that my past PA’s failed to do. And she hasn’t made any move on me till now. So I don’t see any harm.” Logan’s voice cuts through the heavy tension.

You don’t see any harm?? Admit it. You know she is a slutt. And you flirted with her right after you said you love me. Jerk” I huffed, crossing my arms across my chest. Oh God! I feel like clawing his eyes off and feed to the gorilla.

“For God’s sake, I wasn’t flirting. How can I do that when I’ve my eyes only for you!” I glared at him and punched him, hard.

“But Logan, Olivier said that his wife was killed because of me. What does that mean? I’ve never seen him or his wife before.” I asked. All these thoughts and doubts are giving me a terrible headache and I wish I could wash away all these thoughts with soap. But it’s impossible!

“I think someone is playing behind his back. And the murder of his wife has something to do with your parent’s death”

“But-” he placed his index finger on my lips, silencing me.

“Now let’s leave that topic. We’ll discuss it some other time.” He said and I nodded absentmindedly since all my concentration was on his finger which was on my lips. My lips tingled and my insides tightened. Talk about hormones!

“Since that’s settled…” he trailed off. I looked up to meet his bright blue eyes, which has darkened, taking my breath away. His eyes were fixed on my lips, and the butterflies erupted in my stomach.

“Well, -“ he cut me off by placing his lips on mine. I closed my eyes, as I felt my senses were in overdrive. His lips were soft and addictive. First, it was a soft kiss but then it quickly began to turn into much more. He walked back with me in his arms until my back was pressed against the door. My arms came up around him, one hand tangled itself in his locks while the other gripped at his back, enjoying the feeling of his broad and flexing muscles. He trailed off my lips to let me breathe, I gasped as he made his way down to my neck. He started to do wonders on my neck and I clutched onto him tighter, leaving me in a mind buzzing state of nerves and emotions. We pulled back and we were both breathing heavily. I looked up at him slightly dazed and bewildered. That was….amazing!

He closed his eyes and pressed his forehead on mine. When his eyes snapped open, bright blue clashed with my brown eyes. I gave him a shy smile, he looked at me before bowing down to kiss my forehead.

“I love you,” he said in a husky erotic whisper. The world around me stopped and my heart skipped a beat. All I could see was him. How his eyebrows were pulled up together, the way his lips looked so red and swollen and those vibrant glowing blue eyes. He was the sole purpose of perfection.

“Lia” he shook my shoulders and I snapped back into reality.

“W-What?” I whispered in astonishment.

“You weren’t breathing for-“

“No, what do you say earlier?” I asked, pulling myself closer to him. I could feel his tight abs on my chest and I heard him take a deep breath.

“You’re the reason my heart beats faster. Staying away from you is staying away from Oxygen. My heart craves for you, Miss Karolia Kingston. Being with you I feel alive and whole. You have no idea how hard it is to force myself to stop thinking about you.” Logan said, touching my cheek. I looked at him in surprise, shivers running down my spine as he trailed his fingers across the length of my face.

“Why?” I whispered, dumbly.

“Because I’ve fallen deeply in love with you” My eyes welled up with tears, touched by his words. I stood on my tiptoes and pressed my lips on his as a tear rolled down my cheeks. Our lips moved in perfect sync, pouring all our emotion into just one kiss.

“I love you too” I mumbled on his lips and in turn, he bit my lower lip harshly. We pulled back, a goofy grin spread widely on our faces. I jumped suddenly when we heard a knock come from the door behind me and Logan let out a string of words along with the line ’can’t kiss properly’. That’s when I remembered we were still in his office. I quickly straightened my dress and pushed him away, darting to sit in some chair. Logan left out a small chuckle as he smoothened his messy hair and I blushed furiously. He looks crazy hot when he does that!

He walked back into his chair and sat down, before calling for the person who knocked. And soon a girl walked into the room and stopped for a moment to look at us. I guess he changed his P.A again because this wasn’t the one I saw last time. I looked at Logan with raised brows and he shrugged as if it wasn’t a new thing for him to keep changing his assistants. This man!

I looked back at the girl and narrowed my eyes. She was wearing a white shirt which is joined by a blood red skirt. First three buttons of her shirt were undone, showing her boobs and her skirt hardly cover her bottom. Why is the hell she even wearing a dress then? Her face was caked with heavy makeup and lips painted in mac red lipstick. She was five foot eight, slim figure and blonde hair with black ends.

Something about her isn’t making me happy. Either it’s because of the way she’s throwing daggers at me or the way she walks. She walked with so much attitude as if she’s about to take over the world and him. Her heels clicked loudly on the floor and I hope that she doesn’t break those tiles with those pointed heels.

“Mr.Watson, I need your signature on these documents,” she said in a Barbie doll voice making me cringe. She walked closer to Logan and bend down as she placed the papers on the table, showing her boobs into the display. My jaw clenches.

As Logan got distracted by the papers, the Barbie doll looked at me in disgust. My eyes widened when she unbuttoned her fourth button and smirked at me. Anger boiled inside me as I fathomed the meaning of her action. She was trying to seduce my man by showing her feminine parts. Hah, as if he would even spare a glance at her boobs. Wait! What he would?

“Even a kid would wear more decent clothes than you” I mumbled loudly, unable to keep my anger any longer. Logan ignored my statement and continued to put the signature as if nothing happened. His PA’s eyes turned into slits but didn’t say anything since her boss was right in front of her.

“Jealous” she mouthed to me and I rolled my eyes at her. As if! Logan soon realized the rising tension between us and quickly signed the documents. He then gave the paper back to her who smiled so sweetly to him, displaying her 32 teeth.

“Thank you, boss. Do you like some tea or coffee?” she asked him and I rolled my eyes mentally at her sweet voice. I don’t know why? I’m being so possessive around Logan. But do I care?

Hell no!

“No, thank you” he smiled at her.

“By the way, you’ve got a nice figure, Miss Millen,” Logan said to her, making my jaw drop. She blushed and thanked him, before rushing out of the cabin. But not before giving me a smile of triumph. Damn it!

“You are so dead” I hissed at him and jumped up from the seat….

I was lying on my stomach on the floor, trying to complete a project which was given as the weekend homework when I heard a vibration go off somewhere on the floor. I quickly sat up and began moving the scattered papers around until I found my phone under a file.

Logan, the display screen reads. What does he want now! After my small outburst inside the car, Logan dropped me off in my apartment before he headed off to a meeting. Sighing, I slide the phone open.

I’m so sorry, princess. Forgive me?

I suppressed a giggle when I saw a pouting face of Logan on my phone. He had sent an image along with the text. I quickly took a picture and pressed the send button, biting my lips so hard to hold back the grin which was threatening to spread on my face. Suddenly my phone started to ring and I ignored. Again it started to ring and I answered quickly. Knowing him, I know he won’t stop calling me until I answer his call.

“Seriously Lia? You’re sending me a pic of your shoes?” was his first response and I laughed quietly.

“Well hello to you too” I joked, lying on the floor facing the ceiling.

“I’m letting that one slide for now.” He mumbled and I shook my head, as I imagined him pouting.

“Why did you call?” I asked him masking my voice to not let out any emotions.

“I want to apologize. It was wrong of me to flirt with Miss Millen and I know you are angry with me. But I swear I didn’t think of her in any other way and was just trying to-”

“Take me to a date” I blurted out and there was silence on the other side.

“What?” he asked, shocked I guess.

“I said take me out for a date. As an apology” I said slowly, stressing each and every word.

“Of course yes. What a fool I’m. I should’ve been the one to ask and it’s the opposite.” He said guiltily.

“Well, I’m going to promise you something. I’ll make sure this date will be unforgettable. You can count on that, my love.” He said and I’m sure he won’t disappoint me.

“Ouch, you’re hurting me” I yelled at Scarlet as she pulled a strand of my hair.

“Shut up Karrie! Let me finish and I swear I will kick your ass if you smudge any of the makeup.” Knowing she was completely serious I remained silent as she styled my hair into god knows what. My back was facing the mirror so I couldn’t see what the hell she is doing with my hair and face. I’m glad I didn’t have to do anything about these things because of Scarlet but that didn’t change the fact that she was bossy and annoying that makes me want to kick her out. The moment I told her I was going on a date with Logan, she offered to help and gosh what a mistake I did by accepting her offer eagerly. Logan said he would pick me up at 7pm and now the time is 6.30 which means I’ve only half an hour left. OMG! Before I could hyperventilate, Scarlet pronounced the words that I was longing to hear for hours by now.“All done”.

The moment I saw myself in the mirror, I take all the words back I said about Scarlet. I stared at the familiar figure in astonishment. The look was simple yet classy. My face was caked with a thin layer of foundation and my eyes had a smoky tinge around them that made them look mysterious. My lips looked luscious with light pink lipstick and my brown locks were fanning over my shoulders in soft curls which matched my dress, A-line jewel black embroidered off shoulder dress.

“Wow,” I said and Scarlet smiled proudly, satisfied with her magic. At the same time, the doorbell rang. My heart started to beat frantically and I literally threw on my black heels, grabbing my bag and took a deep breath. Okay, I got this!

I quickly hugged Scarlet and rushed to open the door. And boy! What a sight it was! Logan looked like a walking model from the magazine. I let my eyes skim his body, from bottom to top. He wore a black blazer that fit perfectly on his muscular body and black slacks. He wore a white crisp shirt underneath matched with a black tie. His one hand was hidden in his pockets while the other one was behind his back, holding something.

His bright blue eyes met mine and that smirk I had come to expect was nowhere on his face. Instead, his lips parted as he took in my appearance.

“You…You look breathtaking” he said breathlessly and I blushed at his words.

“You don’t look bad either,” I said and he let out a loud laugh, taking my breath away.

“Don’t you think that sentence is out rated now?” he asked with his usual smirk and I laughed embarrassedly. There he is.

“This is for you, Milady.” he presented a bunch of red tulip and blue irises which were wrapped in floral wraps.

“Wow, it’s beautiful. Thank you” I said as I pressed it closer to my chest.

“Shall we?” he asked as he extended his arm for me.

“Yes.” I grinned cheekily and tangled my arms with his. I glanced back at the house and saw Scarlet’s thumb up and an encouraging smile.

Snow fell relentlessly, covering every inch of New York in its cold embrace. But that didn’t stop anyone from getting around and enjoying the night. We stopped the car outside a very expensive looking Italian restaurant. Logan stepped out, and came to my side and opened the door for me as a true gentleman. He gave the car keys to a security before placing his hands at the small of my back. His touch almost seemed possessive. As soon as I entered, I thanked Scarlet for choosing this dress for me. Everyone here was dressed so elegantly, women wearing expensive gowns and dresses and for once I don’t feel out of place. We walked to the reception where a blonde girl was sitting. At the sight of us, she grinned largely and stood up.

“Good evening. How may I help you?” she said.

“Reservation under the name Watson.” He said calmly. She typed something into the computer in front of her before walking around the counter and leads our way to our table, which was in the back of the room. Logan pulled out a seat for me before he settled himself. On the right side, there was a giant glass window and you could watch moonlight reflecting off the slowly moving water. The night was perfect for our date. And on our right side, there was a pianist and a singer on the stage, singing ‘Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri. A man dressed in a black and white suit came to take our orders.

“One bruschetta, chicken marsala, onion frittata, some French fries and a bottle of champagne,” Logan said, looking at the menu book. I’ve never heard of these names before, I just hope it tastes good. The waiter wrote down our order and left to bring our food. As I looked around the surrounding in awe, I felt a stare on the side of my face. Logan was staring at me with a proud look. Even though he knew that I noticed him, he didn’t take his eyes off me.

“I’m so lucky to call such a beautiful girl as mine. You’re not only beautiful outside, but inside as well.” Logan said and he brought my hand to his lips, kissing my knuckles.

“Since when did you become so cheesy?” I asked with a smile playing on my lips. The great Logan Watson is actually telling all those lovey dovey stuffs to me…. God! What’s happening? Am I in an alternate universe?

“Since I decided to make you mine.” He said with a knowing smirk.

Before I could form a sentence in my head to get at his reply, the same man came back with our foods. As soon as the food was placed on the table, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, savoring the smell. It smells and looks delicious. The man opened the champagne and poured it in two glasses before leaving.

We talked about different topics – business, sports, weather and about Worchester. I said to him about my high school days, my friends, how I met Scarlet and my embarrassing moments.

“When I was 15, I had a crush on one of my seniors. But I was too scared to say it to him. After a lot of persuading from my friends, I boldly went to him to ask him out. But as soon as his eyes met mine, out of nervousness I slapped him instead of talking like a normal girl. Oh god, that was so embarrassing.” I said, covering my face in my hands. Logan threw his head back and laughed loudly earning a few amusing stares from others.

“Stop laughing. It wasn’t that funny” I complained and this made him laugh harder, making me smile a bit. He wiped away the tears from his eyes before looking at me. But as soon as he saw me, he started laughing again. Here goes Round 2!

The drive to wherever he was taking me was in silence. Logan focused on the driving, while I looked outside the street lamps lighting up the road. I asked him numerous times where he was taking me, but all he said was ‘it’s surprise’.

“This is not how I planned our date would go” I huffed, breathing heavily. We were walking through the woods. We were walking deeper and deeper into the forest, the tree branches getting thicker.

“It will be worth. I promise. Just have some patience, love.” was all his reply and I nodded absentmindedly.. I was so caught up with what he called me that I merely forgot why I was angry at the first place. Soon we stopped and I gasped at the beauty in front of me. I could see a part of New York up from here. It looked so tiny and beautiful.

“Wow,” I gasped. From behind, Logan wrapped his arms around me , hugging me. He placed his head on my shoulder, his hair tickling my cheeks as we both gazed at the beauty.

The moonlight glittered through the canopy of the woods making the view even more exotic. I stared at the beautiful night sky as a comfortable silence set around us. Suddenly I felt something bright pierce upward through the dark sky. It was a lantern that went off like a firefly in utter darkness. Soon enough, lots and lots of lanterns went off. The view filed my eyes like a bright star. Then a bright and colorful burst of colors was seen in the lantern filled sky. The fireworks burst continuously, giving out overwhelmingly beautiful colors. My lips parted a little as my eyes twinkled with the beautiful sky ahead of me. I’ve never seen something like this before. I stood there with my mouth agape. I couldn’t seem to find proper words as I stared at the lighted sky with parted lips.

“Y-You did this...for me?” I asked, stilling staring at the mesmerizing sky.

“Yes,” A wave of joy washed over me and tears started to roll down my eyes. Strong emotions coursed through me and I didn’t know what to do with my hands. I wanted to clap, hug him and wipe the tears away but it remained immobile at my sides.

“Hey, look at me” Logan stood in front of me and cupped my face in his large warm hands, a frown stretching on his forehead.

“You didn’t like it?” He asked nervously.
“No.” colors drained from his face. “I love it. No one has ever done anything like this to me. You always surprise me with unpredictable things. Things I don’t even know whether I deserve. But I don’t have anything to give you, except my love for you. I have nothing but myself to give you.” I almost choked on my tears, overwhelmed by this sudden burst of emotions.

I was just blinking away the tears and when I opened my eyes, Logan wasn’t in front of me anymore. He was kneeling and reaching out for something from his back pocket. I gasped. No. He wouldn’t. He took out a blue velvet box and opened it to reveal a plain, thick silver ring and looked straight into my eyes.

“Lia, I have no idea how many times I have said it to you, but every time I say it I feel like I need to say it more. Like every day, every minute and every second. I Love You Karolia. I don’t want anything from you. All I wanted was you and now I’ve got you, I couldn’t be much happier. I won’t let anyone take you away from me and I promise you that. All I ask you is to stay by my side and…. To be mine. I know you would say no if I propose marriage to you or even engagement. I know you’re not ready and I’m ready to wait and take it slow for you. So I’ll ask something with a lower level of commitment.” He raised my left hand and asked.

“Will you be my girlfriend, Lia?”

To say that I was shocked was an understatement. I couldn’t believe this was happening. I had seen different scenarios of someone proposing to me in my dreams. But when it was finally happening I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed. I always wondered whether I meant anything more to Logan. He never expressed all of his feelings to me before. But now when I look into his eyes, I can see every emotions passing through them. And in that moment I was sure that he loved me. And I loved him too.

“Yes…. Yes, I will.” I said without any hesitations. That was enough for him to push that plain silver ring on to my finger. He got up and grabbed my face to give me a toe curling kiss that sent all the sparks and butterflies to go on a wild but beautiful rampage.

We pulled back when we got breathless and leaned into each other, foreheads touching. “I wonder how Grecia is going to react?” Logan opened his eyes groaning like a big bear.

“Way to ruin the moment, Lia.”

“What? I was just worried. What if she doesn’t accept me? What if she thinks-“

“ We have all day tomorrow to worry about it. Right now let’s just continue with this…”

And with that he brought back our lips together and soon we got lost into each other again. Finally, I feel safe and secured in the arms of the man I love. What more can I ask for?

A/N: Finally! They are together officially..
