Wrecking Heart

“Oh honey, where have you been?” a familiar voice startles me and I looked up to see Grecia, her face filled with worry and relief.

“Grecia!” I muttered, automatically putting my hands over my racing heart. She walked up to me, pulling me into a tight hug.

“I missed you so much,” I said, hugging her back, as tightly as I can. I shut my eyes close, preventing the tears that were threatening to fall. But this time, it was the tears of happiness. Happy to know that Grecia was finally back and I’m not alone anymore. For the past few days, loneliness had consumed me, controlling my mind and soul. Every day I felt like I was walking down a road with no directions, scared and not knowing when it will end.

“Where have you been? I tried calling you several times, but it went straight to voicemail. I was so worried” Grecia asked as she pulled back from the hug, frowning.

“My phone’s battery died. I was with my friend.” I lied effortlessly. She gave me a small smile and nodded. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Logan stepping out of the kitchen.

“Mom, did she answer your-“ he stopped mid-sentence as he noticed my presence in the room.

“Karolia” he breathed out. I met his gaze for a brief second, before shifting my gaze away from him. I couldn’t look at him. I can’t again fall for those mesmerizing gaze

“Are you all right sweetie? You seem a bit off”

“Yeah, I’m just tired. I think I’ll be heading to bed now. I’ll be fine after a good nap.” I said.

“Yeah sure. I’ll talk to you tomorrow then” she said, patting my arm gently.

“Sure” I muttered before walking upstairs. The entire time, Logan was staring at us, not even uttering a word. As I was about to twist the doorknob of my room, a hand grabbed my arm from behind, turning my body around. He pushed me against the door and locked my arm behind my back with his tight grip. My heart started to beat loudly and I’m sure he could hear it, considering the distance between us was less than a micrometer.

His ocean blue eyes were locked with my brown one. For a second I felt myself being lost in them, but then reality hit me hard. I broke the eye contact and struggled against his grip. But he wouldn’t let go.

“Where were you?” He asked coldly, his eyes never leaving mine. His cold tone triggered my anger more. I struggled to free myself from his firm hold and I pushed him away using my other hand. Finally he let go of my arm, but instead stepped closer. Our chest was pressed tightly against each other.

“That’s none of your business,” I said harshly. Suddenly hurt flash through his eyes, but soon disappeared. Guess I was just hallucinating. Why would he be hurt after all that he has done to me? It’s me who should be. And I’m, so deeply hurt.

“Don’t use that harsh tone on me” he hissed, pinning me with his deadly gaze.

“I’ll use whichever tone I want. Who are you to command me?” He glared at me.

“Logan step back. I’m tired” I cut him off and again pushed him. He stepped back. I entered my room without a word and closed it shut as hard as I can. I turn around to face the room as my back slide against the door until I’m leaning on it on the floor

My life has never been as perfect as I’ve ever planned. It’s rather been a roller coaster ride. People say that life’s filled with ups and downs. But guess my life rather has more downs than ups. Whenever I love someone so much, they tend to walk past me, not even bothering to look back. After that incident, I made up my mind not to trust anyone. Not to believe anyone. Not to be too attached to anyone. And most importantly, not to love anyone. But guess my heart took the opposite way. I’ve never realized how much I liked Logan until today. Until now. Because only a person whom you love so much can hurt you too much. Ever since the day Logan started ignoring me, I feel like my heart is being continuously stabbed with thousands of knives. And I know it very well, that this can be cured only by Logan and only him.

I stood up from the floor and lay on my bed, staring at the ceiling, deep in thought. A tear roll down my cheek. I felt my heart heavy like it will explode any minute. I wanted to sleep, but my mind refuses to do so. It’s filled with so many thoughts that make me feel stressed. I shift uncomfortably on my bed, desperate to get some sleep. And finally, around 2 in the morning, I shut my eyes closed and drifted into a deep sleep.

( Next Morning )

I climbed down the stairs and headed to the kitchen, humming a random tune on my way. After a long shower, all my drowsiness and gloominess vanished. The aroma of freshly made pancakes made my stomach growl. My stomach has been empty for an entire day and is starving. I walked into the kitchen and noticed Grecia making some delicious breakfast.

“Good morning,” I said cheerfully as I sat on the countertop.

“Morning honey” She greeted back.

“Want some coffee?” She asked and I nodded. As she started preparing coffee for me, I took the time to study her features. Grecia looked very young for her age. Her hair was hazel brown which complemented her fair skin. Her eyes were light blue, just like the ocean, so peaceful and warm. There’s a constant smile on her face which warms my heart. In many ways, Grecia resembles my mother. She’s always sweet and caring and treats me like her own family. That’s what makes her very close to my heart.

She placed a plate of delicious pancakes with raspberries and syrup on the top and a cup of steaming coffee on the table. I got down the countertop and sat down on a chair, ready to fill my tummy.

“Bon Appétit,” I said and I took a bite of the pancake. I moaned in delight as the taste of delicious pancake and raspberry hit my taste buds. I finished my plate within a few minutes.

“That was definitely heaven in a plate,” I said as I took a sip of my coffee.

“I’m glad you like it,” Grecia said with a smile. After a while, Logan walked into the kitchen and kissed Grecia on the cheek before taking a seat beside me. His presence beside me tensed me up. Is it just me or is the room really getting hot? I took a deep breath as I tried to calm myself down.

I heard an annoying voice, calling out for Logan. Guess Miss Drama Queen is back. I saw Natasha walk into the kitchen with her face literally caked with makeup.

“Oh hello, Mrs.Watson! It’s good to see you after a long time.” She said in her high pitched girly voice, that made me wince slightly.

“Good to see you too Natasha. How are you?” Grecia asked casually.

“I’m good, Mrs.Watson.” She said, taking a seat near Logan. Actually near would be an understatement. She was literally sitting on his lap. I expected Logan to sit still and enjoy it, but to my surprise, he just got up from his seat and walked towards the fridge, grabbing some cold coffee. Natasha tried to mask her disappointment with a fake smile.

“So what’s your purpose of visit?” Grecia asked.

“Oh I’m here to see my friends,” Natasha said, eyeing Logan.

“So are you done with it?” Grecia asked, noticing that Natasha was staring at Logan. For a second I thought whether Grecia asked ‘Are you done with checking out Logan?’

“Done with what?” Natasha asked, looking back at Grecia. Guess I’m not the only one who got that thought.

“With your get-togethers and meetups?” Grecia asked, leaning against the kitchen counter.

“Umm..yeah,” Natasha said awkwardly.

“So when are you leaving?” Grecia asked, not beating around the bush. I was surprised at how straight forward her question was.

“I’m not planning to, Mrs. Watson” Natasha said.

“But I suggest you to. Sooner, the better”

“Are you indirectly asking me to Get Out?” Natasha asked shocked.

“I don’t think it could be a more direct sweetheart,” Grecia said, giving her a fake smile. I’ve never seen this side of Grecia before. But damn I liked it!! Guess I wasn’t the only one disturbed by Natasha’s presence.

“Don’t you have anything to say about this Logan?!” Natasha asked, getting up from the chair.

“You heard her. That’s final. I don’t have any say in it.” Logan said.

“Then what about this lady huh?” She asked, pointing at me. Why is she bringing me in this?

She looked at Grecia, saying “You would allow a complete stranger to live in here for an entire month, but not me? How’s is that fair? I’ve been in Logan’s life, and he had cared for me and loved me more than anyone in this world! But she? She is just a side chick who pretends to be decent for the sake of his wealth. She is nothing but a gold digger.” She whispered the last part, but loud enough for us to hear.

I wasn’t shocked to hear those words coming out from her mouth. I always expected that since Natasha and I don’t get along well with each other. And the reason for that is simple. Logan. We both like him. Even though I never expressed my feelings about him to anyone else, but Natasha knows there is something going on between me and Logan. And it’s far from hatred.

Logan slammed the glass he was holding on the counter, as anger boiled inside him. His eyes turned a darker shade, his fist clenched.

“Another word about my mom or Karolia, you’re dead” he hissed. A shiver ran down my body at the coldness of his tone. The temperature in the room reduced several degrees. “ I never loved you. It was only to maintain a business relationship with your dad I started dating you” Logan said through gritted teeth.

“Y-You never loved?” Natasha was shocked and tears started to roll down her cheeks.

“You always knew I never loved you, but you ignored it. That’s your fault”

“Yo-You bastard!” Natasha yelled. “H-How dare you! We’re done” she hissed

“We never had a relationship to end it. Now get out of my house” Logan said. Natasha cursed him and after glaring at me, she rushed out of the room, crying. To be honest, I feel bad for her. But what’s done is done.

“I’m sorry for what she had said, mom. I should have seen this coming.” Logan said, rubbing his temples.

“Its all right son. Don’t sweat about it. I never liked that girl. She’s not good for you” Grecia said, patting his back. I got up from my seat and said “I’ll be upstairs” before leaving to my room.

I lay on my bed, deep in thoughts. Somehow Natasha’s words left me stunned and thinking. As much as I hate to admit it, she was right. I’m a complete stranger to the Watson family and shouldn’t be staying in here any longer. I agreed to stay here only until I found a new apartment. But I haven’t made any efforts to moving out. Guess I’ll have to go for apartment shopping. Sounds fun. Hell NO!!
