Blurb

In the future, they came. Out of nowhere it almost seems. They took over the Earth, took over our lives, and never once apologized. I've been a fighter my whole life. Fighting to survive, fighting to live. I'd rather die than be a slave to those mongrels. But I had no idea, that my plans would not turn out that way. I had no idea that he would find me. And prove me wrong. Oh so horribly wrong.

Prologue

The being stood looking out beyond the transparent glass of his ship. Earth. It was such a tiny planet. Full of beings that believed everything revolved around them. They each were selfish in their own way, fighting and causing war, death, and disease for the miniscule profit of power. The being laughs to himself. Such an insolent race.

All the years they had been granted to make their world a better place and they did nothing but make it worse. They didnt know the real power of conquer and respect. And that’s why he was there. He wanted the Earth. He wanted to teach them, no show them that they are inferior in every way possible.

He smiles to himself. He knew they would try and fight back, but it would be pointless. But he reveled in the bloodshed. He loved the fact that once their hopes were put out, they would understand their true purpose. It was simple. To serve him and his race, however he deemed necessary.

The being turns to his second in command. The humans thought they were so advanced with all their satellites and telescopes. Their technology was so far behind they hadnt even realized that they were being watched for thousands of years until he saw fit the time to intervene.

“Ready the fleet. I’m ready to claim what is mine.”

What were you doing on July the 6th, 2025? I can tell you what I was doing. I was enjoying an ice cream cone. I was in the park, and it was the day before my birthday. I was only 10 at the time. My parents were taking me out, to have fun because my father would be out of town the next day for work.

We never expected the world to stop. We never expected our lives to change. We only expected what our plans were to happen.

No one knows where they came from. They just appeared. Not on a majestic ship, not on a ray of sunshine, or even a crack in the earth. One second I was licking an ice cream cone, enjoying my time with my parents, and the next I was running for my life. The world changed in an instant. We had no warning. We had no chance. These powerful strangers came, and took over, and there was nothing we could do, but run.

They destroyed Earth as we knew it. Taking down cities in hours, and destroying roads in seconds. They literally bulldozed every major city, every skyscraper. Anything that they wanted, and created their new utopia. One in which we were not welcome. Unless we were coming in chains. We were forced to migrate on the outskirts of their city, in the poor and abandoned area, called the ‘blight’. We scavenge for food, huddle for warmth, and fight for survival. But it was worth it. We would rather die than be one of their slaves.

My name is Iris. I’ve been on this Earth for a short 18 years. Clawing my way to survival since that day. I started a group, in which I lead. We don’t have a name. We don’t need one. We just stick together through thick and thin. We fight for each other, and we’d die for each other. We’re the roughest ones out there.

We all lost our families. We’re all each other has. But just like the day that they came, we didn’t know that our lives were about to change, drastically.
