Chapter 1 - New Owner

****DISCLAIMER*****************************************

Before you get to reading my story please be aware that it is an unfinished first draft so, as pointed out in some reviews it contains grammar errors and the like. Apologies for that but I hope that you can look past that and enjoy the story I'm trying to create. Many thanks.

It was bound to happen sooner or later, although most around the area wished it would have been later. The decrepit house at the end of the street was bought by some developer trying to make a name for himself.

Those who have lived there from the start had seen so many people move in and out of that house over the years they could of run a betting pool on which month someone would buy it and how long they'd last.

It was only 6 months since the last occupants tried to 'fix it up'. It wasn't a particularly old house or anything too modern, the price is what probably lured them in as it did with many others. The garden was overgrown, the wooden fence around it had dipped down in many places, mainly from the neighbourhood kids daring each other to go up to the door and peek into the window. Not that they'd see anything only whatever furniture the previous occupants had left behind. They always seemed to run back and hop over the same part of the fence much to the delight of their small group of friends that came up with the idea for that dare.

The local Sheriff knew to keep a patrol car there when it came close to Halloween, just to stop any mischief. The dried remains of whatever was planted could easily be set alight by a stray spark. The house is situated where it was could easily spread to the surrounding houses.

The familiar sight of the real estate agent coming first to put a 'Sold' sign up, which depending on how urgent the buyer wanted to get started would then follow with it being removed and a delivery truck coming with whatever items they decided to move in. This time however was a little bit different, as it was a developer type no moving vans, just him and his business partner pulling up in a truck looking around, making notes at what would probably need doing and working out a figure on what they should spend but still be able to 'flip' the house for some profit once it was done.

The sign on the side of his truck read "Tom Haskell Construction" with his grinning face on the side of it complete with hard hat.
