Blurb

For generations Candore has determined its next heir to the throne with an all-out war between the current ruler's children. Terra, youngest of the King's offspring, bears none of the ruthless qualities shared by the rest of her family. But when her sixteenth birthday heralds the beginning of the destructive conflict, she finds unexpected help from a young fisherman named Cyrus, unwittingly thrust into the heart of the war alongside her. Aided by her faithful dragon, Terra and Cyrus must find a way to escape the King's wrath--and survive the brutal war against her cutthroat siblings and the dangerous creatures they have wrested under their control . . .

Prologue

“Bring me a peasant.”

Terra blinked in surprise and took a step back. “You mean abduct someone?”

“Of course.”

Only her father would say something like that. To him, people were nothing more than objects to be used and discarded. To him it was no different than telling her to steal some gold.

Her father’s powerful voice resounded through the castle walls. “This is the first step in the Ritual of Adulthood.”

The Ritual. Terra had dreaded this day her entire life. Though the Ritual had always remained shrouded in mystery, one thing was certain: war was about to erupt.

Her father’s glare pierced her like a knife. He could sense her hesitation and it displeased him. His eyes became narrow slits.

“Do we understand each other?”

Terra swallowed the lump in her throat, eyes not meeting her father’s gaze.

“Yes, father.”

abstractact09: Like all of this author's stories, the plot and characters are always surprising you. I have never been interested in reading a story about mermaids, but I love this story and the world the author has created.

Bensarchive: The female character is a hot damn strong! I love it when female rules the story. I mean , instead of being a burden, Antiope became the spine of the pack. I love it! Million thumbs up.

SaraJoey Djojohadikusumo: Probably the best written story I have read so far on Inkitt and I have read a few. It isn’t overly dramatic (except maybe the guy is way too open emotionally), and is well written. Can imagine this being expanded into a real published paperback novel.

Ella Navarez: I already red this book, I definitely recommend you to read it too! Full of surprises, as always 🙂

bsp20: Good story but a lot of errors ( she’s thinking in the shower before she takes the shower) needs better flow. Also I don’t like cliff hangers.
