Chapter 6-Magnolia

I struggled to control the shift that threatened to take control of my body. I fought against it and suffered through the excruciating pain. Once I was able to control the shift, I began my tirade in his office. I tossed books off shelves, cleared his desk of his belongings and overturned small end tables and chairs.

My vision was tinged in an angry red hue. He had the gall to shame me about my relationship with Caspian while he was freaking engaged. He said nothing as I continued to make a mess of his office.

The female’s blue eyes were seared into the back of my skull. Her smugness now made sense to me.

He leaned against the wall and watched me in my now silent rage.

Finally able to control my anger, I asked, “what do you mean she was your fiance?”

Holding up his hands, he stalked closer until he stood in front of me. My anger evaporated as I watched the Alpha male kneel in submission at my feet.

“I have no excuse for my behavior and will make none. I do want you to know that any relationship I had with her was purely political and nothing more.

He peeked up at me from behind his beautiful, long, dark eyelashes. How was I supposed to stay mad at the male in front of me when he was so damn beautiful and sincere in his words?

I touched his shoulder, relishing the spark between us, and waited for him to stand again. He wielded such a strong and commanding presence, being near him intimidated me but right now we were at the same level. We were equals. Was this how it was supposed to be with him?

“I guess we do have some things to discuss about our previous relationships, although I’d rather not,” I muttered.

“I don’t need to know anything else. I can smell that you’re still untainted. That is all I need to know for now,” he replied dramatically.

I blushed slightly at his words and by mine. “Are you untainted?”

What was I thinking asking that question? He was a twenty-seven-year-old man, of course, he wasn’t untainted.

“I think there are things we need to talk about,” he said darkly.

I gulped and inhaled deeply. There wasn’t anything to be worried about. It couldn’t be that bad.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

We walked together in silence as we made our way towards the backyard. The tension between us was a living breathing thing. When he tried to grab my hand, I couldn’t contain the growl that escaped my lips. It was a confusing feeling. My body ached for his touch but my mind refused to let it indulge in its carnal desires.

I understood the feeling of not finding a mate but I didn’t go and whore out my body to any and every person out there. The jealousy clawing and making a home in my heart was a dark and poisonous thing. I didn’t want it to come between Sebastian and me but the jealousy had a life of its own. My mind played a continuous reel of Sebastian with faceless woman doing all sorts of devious and fleshly acts.

When he started out the conversation by saying he had a phase where he’d seen many women I still hadn’t thought that our experience levels would be so vastly different. I never thought I could feel so betrayed by acts done before me. I was by no means a saint but I had never crossed that line. Was it because I was a prude or maybe deep down I’d held hope for a mate that would demand my virtue? Had I secretly held the hope that I antagonized Teresa about?

These were my thoughts as we made our way to meet his pack hierarchy. The backyard was more acres of land than anything else. Men and women trained in both skin and fur while some of the younger pack members ran around trying to find a mentor. Sebastian had mentioned it was time for them to find one.

Up ahead stood Caius with three other individuals who made up the upper hierarchy of my new pack. To my left was a group of scantily clothed women who stopped their training to show their submission to their Alpha. I didn’t miss their smell of arousal or their looks of appreciation of the man next to me. I snarled at them before any of them got it into their head to approach him. Sebastian looked down at me, a slight smirk on his face. He enjoyed the show of my claiming him.

The next thought in my head was an unwelcome one. Were any of those women part of his past? Had he had his own harem of she-wolves? Had he loved them with his body? The surge of pain and jealousy was like a tidal wave. It would overwhelm me if I let it.

A low rumble broke my thoughts while Sebastian’s arms pulled me off the field of bodies. My back was now up against the side of the house. We were encased by a cocoon of thick trees. The surprised murmurs from the pack could be heard from our space off to the side of the house; still, Sebastian held me locked in his arms, nose at the base of my left ear and mouth at the nape of my neck.

Caius’s growl thundered through the grounds. The murmurs quickly ceased and all went back to normal. Everything but my raging heartbeat and the temperature of my body being held by the gorgeous body of my mate.

“What are you doing?” I said strangled.

He inhaled my scent from my hair to the top of my breasts. A growl of lust echoed through his chest and traveled to the deepest part of my womanhood. What power this man held over my body.

“Mmmm,” he grumbled.

I raised my hands to push him off me but he grabbed them and held them hostage, one on each side of my head. His hips held me pinned against the wall. The charge of our bond moved steadily between us.

“I close my eyes and see no one but you. I smell no one but you. Everything and everyone else is in the past. I cannot change it and I regret the pain you feel because of it. I feel your pain as if it were my own. I will try every day to ease that pain till it no longer lingers in your heart. Just know that you are my future. My body is yours just as yours is mine and I may not know you well, but trust me when I say I plan on rectifying that,” he whispered forcefully into the base of my neck.

I shivered at his words. Could I put his past behind us? I wanted to say yes more than anything and he must have noticed that as his eyes searched for an answer in mine.

He must have seen something he liked because the next moment his lips were against my own, taking me by surprise. I’d like to say I fought him off but my body had a mind of its own. His lips were soft and commanding, everything I imagined them to be. He released my arms and trailed his fingertips over the small portion of skin visible between my shirt and jeans. This moment would haunt my dreams, such raw and real desire.

My fingers curled into the deep locks of his long brown hair, messing up his neat pompadour cut. His teeth sank into my bottom lip, eliciting a soft moan into his mouth. His tongue took advantage and delved in greedily. After what seemed like hours of pure undiluted bliss, we broke apart gasping for breath.

A sly satisfied grin took over his beautiful face. I rolled my eyes as I nudged his well-defined body away from me. He adjusted himself as I fixed my shirt and redid the ends of my braids.

“Ready to meet everyone?” he asked.

“Not particularly,” I muttered.

There was no way they didn’t know what was happening a mere thirty yards away from them. I could only hope they hadn’t heard the specifics of our conversation.

We stepped out of the small copse of trees and reentered society. Knowing eyes followed us and smirks graced the faces of the men of the pack. Sour looks were plastered on the women who once held looks of lust.

Sebastian wrapped an arm securely around my waist, claiming me in any way he could in front of his pack. It was also a way to ward off some of the admiring looks from the male wolves. It seemed he was a bit more civilized in showing his claim than I was. I was all snarling and gnashing teeth while all he had to do was drape an arm.

Besides Caius, there were two other males and a female waiting for us. Thankfully, none of them held smug looks on their faces. Caius offered a warm smile before bowing his head in submission to his Alpha. Caius’s long ponytail had been chopped off for a more modern cut. His dark hair was now so short you could see his scalp. If anything the cut enhanced his dark brooding features. I wondered what brought on the change.

While Caius and Sebastian spoke quietly off to the side, I was able to take in the rest of the small group. A man and a woman stood side by side, not so subtly watching my every move.

They must be the twin gammas Sebastian spoke of. They were the epitome of blonde beauty but with a more savage and muscled look. They didn’t wait to be introduced.

“I’m Tonya and this is my brother Titus. We’re the pack Gammas. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Luna,” she said as they both offered a stiff nod.

“We look forward to training you and seeing how much you know,” Titus added.

I nodded, unsure of what else to say. I was trying not to be awkward but awkward was my middle name. It should have been easier to settle into this group. I was by Teresa’s side as she trained to be the Alpha of my old pack. Most of her lessons were ingrained in my memory as well. I was even trained in some combat to help Teresa as needed, but after a while, she surpassed anything they had taught me and the pack Gamma became lax in my training. I never bothered to keep it up. What reason had I had to continue with that torture?

The last individual was one I’d seen before. He was the one who let Sebastian know that the rogues had returned. His speckled beard was trimmed and neat. He is what Teresa would have called a silver fox. He had an old-timey quality about him, but he screamed trouble. He wore a leather jacket, a maroon v-neck t-shirt, black skinny jeans, and combat boots; very Jeffrey Dean Morgan via the Walking Dead.

“Lyla, this is my uncle, Tiberius,” Sebastian stated, finally back from his private conversation with Caius.

The silver fox smirked way too sexily for a man his age. He winked and held out a hand for me to shake. I gave it hesitantly. Something about him wasn’t sitting right with me.

“Nice to meet you, Lyla. I never thought I’d see the day my nephew found his mate. It’s humbling to witness.” he grinned. ” I only wish my brother and his wife were here to see it,” he added somberly.

“It’s nice to meet you too,” I mumbled.

“You’re a quiet one, aren’t you?” he asked.

I eyed him warily. “Not really, I’m just taking it all in. When I speak I make it a point to have something worthwhile to be heard.”

His eyebrows shot up.

What the hell had I just said? I was seriously talking out of my ass. Sebastian chuckled.

Tiberius rubbed his jaw in thought. “Well, I look forward to getting to know you better, Luna.”

I crossed my arms in front of my chest and nodded stiffly. Sebastian’s uncle was really rubbing me the wrong way.

“Ah, here comes the last member of our little close-knit group,” Tiberius added deviously.

Both Caius and Sebastian’s muscles visibly tightened. A look of panic swept across both their faces. Sebastian leaned over and whispered, “I didn’t invite her.”

I turned around and the blue-eyed blonde sauntered towards us in a skimpy black sports bra and tight booty shorts.

“Was she not supposed to be invited?” Tiberius asked. “Because if she wasn’t, I didn’t get the memo and invited her this morning.”

“Why is she here? What is her role?” I seethed.

Sebastian rubbed the back of his neck. “She’s been the pack’s caregiver. It’s an unofficial position,′ he said giving nothing away.

“Caregiver?” I asked.

“More like the unofficial Luna,” Tiberius added duplicitously.

Sebastian cursed quietly.

I whipped around to face the blue-eyed blonde.

She held out a dainty hand and spoke in her too sweet southern accent. “Magnolia Birmingham, pleasure to officially make your acquaintance.”
