Chapter 3- The big bad wolf

The woods were quiet as if they knew the alpha predator within was angry. Sebastian fought to control his breathing. Slowly he released his hands from the tightly held fists and rolled his shoulders.

I sucked in a breath as the muscles in his shoulders moved. I lifted a hand to touch them but quickly thought better of it. I had turned into a sexually aroused she-wolf the minute I laid eyes on him.

He turned to face me, his blue eyes a raging storm. The only remaining thing that told he was still furious.

“What do you mean he’s your boyfriend?”

I shuffled from foot to foot. Normally, I would have played with a strand of my hair but my hands were currently occupied at the moment by my breasts.

“I didn’t think I’d find a mate this year or ever,” I offered.

His gaze hardened as he smirked. “Well, here I am.”

“I see that,” I said lamely.

“And?” he asked.

“Uh, and?” I repeated not sure what he wanted me to say, but then it hit me. He wanted to know what it meant now that I’d found him.

I was an idiot.

I continued, “We were on a break for the week and if either one of us found our mate, we’d be done. He found his mate too.”

Sebastian’s eyebrows rose. “Good.”

He raised a finger and ran it down the side of my jaw, leaving behind a trail of hot fire. My heart threatened to escape my chest.

His eyes bore into mine. “Because I don’t plan on sharing.”

A subtle cough came from the line of trees behind Sebastian. He turned around making sure to keep me hidden from whoever was there.

“Caius,” he said, not bothering to cover his nakedness.

I peeked around his body and there stood a tall man with long black hair tied in a low ponytail. He was fully dressed, unlike Sebastian and I.

“I brought her clothes and notified her pack Alpha of the changes to be made,” he said in a firm tone.

Changes?

“Thank you, Caius.”

Caius nodded and turned to leave, but not before adding, “I’m glad he’s found you.”

I blushed at his words.

Sebastian waited a few seconds before turning to face me again. He handed me my clothes. I waited until he looked away, not quite ready to show him the goods. Although, I was happy to look at his even though I attempted not to blatantly stare and his backside.

My mind definitely went to naughty places.

Sebastian tilted his head to the side, no doubt picking up the scent of my arousal.

I ignored the smirk on his face. It was the one thing I hated about being a wolf. Everyone knew when you were turned on or on your period days.

It seemed Caius had brought him a change of clothes as well.

“How did you know what pack I was from and where to find my clothes?”

“I know all the particular scents of the packs in attendance and you smelled of the Blue Moon pack. Once we knew that, it wasn’t hard for Caius to find your pack mates that didn’t find their mates tonight. They held your clothes.”

“Oh.”

He’d mind-linked with Caius and I’d never noticed.

“Let’s go,” he said, cutting off my thoughts. “Where are you staying?”

“The Fleur De Lis.”

I guess I was going home instead of heading back towards the field where everyone would eventually return to. They’d celebrate and enjoy their night; food and drinks would be given and music would blast through the night for them to dance along to.

We headed in a different direction of the field which eventually led out onto a quiet road. He unlocked a black range rover and moved to open my door.

“I got it,” I said.

His jaw tensed but he allowed me to open my own door. I didn’t need him to be doing it now that he was suddenly my mate. The drive was a quiet one and we kept mostly to ourselves, although, I could feel him staring at me every now and then.

We pulled up into a U shaped driveway. This wasn’t my hotel. It was his home. The one Teresa had been eyeing as we passed by earlier.

“Uh, what’s going on? This isn’t my hotel,” I said stating the obvious.

“You’re staying with me,” he answered, leaving no room for refusal.

“But my roommate...”

“She can stay here as well.”

I twisted my fingers against each other, not sure how to respond to him.

He continued, “Alpha Hugo was offered a wing in my house for him and any pack members that would like to join him. He accepted.”

I rolled my eyes. Now our pack was important enough to be offered such an honor. Only two Alpha’s had been given the honor of staying in the Alpha’s home this year.

“It’s a bit presumptuous of you to think I’d be staying with you,” I said annoyed.

“Were you going to say no?”

I didn’t answer.

“That’s what I thought,” he chuckled.

“Stupid, egotistical, self-assured, son of a,” I whispered to myself.

“What’s that?” he grinned.

“Nothing,” I said dragging my body out of the vehicle.

He knew what I was saying, wolf hearing and all.

He opened the door of his house and waited for me to follow. We stood in the doorway. His blue eyes questioning my hesitancy to enter.

“I need to get my things.”

“They’ve already been picked up and will arrive shortly.”

My mouth fell open. He’d sent someone to get my things. I let it slide that he’d assumed I’d stay with him but he was crossing too many lines. My body became heated as my blood began to boil at the thought of someone going through my things without my permission.

Before I knew what I was doing my hand slapped his face. A loud smack reverberated throughout his home. I held in the small cry of agony that wanted to escape my lips and cradled the hand that smacked him close to my chest. The man had a rock hard face.

His face had turned left with the force of my slap. His eyes were wide with shock which slowly turned furious.

Okay, maybe I’d overreacted, but what he did pissed me off. What made him think he could do whatever the hell he wanted?

He finally looked down at me, eyes raging. If looks could kill then I’d be dead ten times over.

His carefully combed hair was no longer neat and perfectly gelled. His growl should have scared me but instead, it lit a fire within me. All I wanted to do was ravage the man standing in front of me.

He pulled me into his house and pushed me against the nearest wall. His chest was held flush against mine. Those steely blue eyes of his pinned me to my spot just as much as his hands did. I gasped as his fingers found the bare skin at my waist. Little lightning bolts of pure desire electrified the skin he touched.

Was this what it was to have a mate? The desire to want to be around this man was overwhelming and the need for his touch was suffocatingly intoxicating.

The fury drained from his cold blue eyes to only be replaced by lust. His eyes devoured my lips and I was so close to asking him to kiss me, but then his eyes landed on the hand I still cradled near my body.

He stepped back, leaving my body aching and wanting. “Are you okay?” he asked.

I could only nod. The truth was I hardly felt the pain in my hand anymore. My body just hadn’t reacted to the fact that it didn’t hurt anymore. My brain was more preoccupied with the curves of Sebastian’s lips and the way he made my body feel by his proximity.

“Sebastian,” said a voice nearby.

Sebastian’s head snapped to where the voice came from. An older man with dark facial hair smattered with gray watched us for a second before continuing. “The rogues are back.”

He turned to face me and there was an emotion clear as day on his face but I couldn’t read it. I didn’t know him well enough.

“Stay here,” he ordered before taking off.

The house was quiet with his absence.

“Be safe,” I whispered, breaking the silence.

I quickly mind-linked with Beta Alexander and informed him of the situation, not that I knew much; which he so generously pointed out.

He really didn’t like me. I wondered if he’d heard the news about Caspian. I’m sure he’d be happy to hear he’d found his mate. Maybe then he’d be an easier wolf to be around.

I shut the massive front door and turned to look at the huge room. It was an overtly large entrance hall with fancy sitting chairs, mirrors, and entry tables.

“Madam,” said someone to my right.

He was dressed in a fancy three-piece suit with a purple colored handkerchief in his front pocket. I didn’t think people actually still dressed that way. He was maybe in his early thirties.

“Hi,” I offered.

“Alpha Sebastian has asked that I show you to your room.”

“Oh, okay. Thank you.”

The man wasn’t a wolf. It seemed Sebastian had humans working here. Interesting.

I followed him up a flight of stairs and ran into several wolves along the way. How had I not picked up on their scents when I’d gotten here? I thought we’d been alone. I must have been too distracted to properly take anything in.

All the wolves we passed watched me with clear curiosity and all respectfully bowed their heads in submission. I nearly choked when the first had done it.

I hadn’t given it much thought about what it meant to be Sebastian’s mate. Not really. What did they see when they looked at me?

Their future Luna?

I was ripped out of my thoughts by Matthew, the human who led me to my room. He pointed out two wings of the house that would be hosting two other Alphas and some of their pack. He then proceeded to show me where my pack would be staying. The wing accommodated six rooms and just by looking down the hall, I could tell the rooms would be beautiful.

I wondered what my Alpha thought of all of this. I would check in as soon as I could when they arrived. Matthew did not take me down the hall where my pack was staying, instead, we went up another flight of stairs.

The third floor held three rooms, the master, and two other guest rooms nearly as large.

He opened the door to the room in the center of the guest rooms. My mouth fell open. The entire back wall of the room was glass with a view into the forest behind the mansion. The moon glistened softly into the room, illuminating the furniture. A large bed and modern furniture decorated the large space. It was fit for a king.

I stepped in, closely followed by my guide. It was then that I caught his scent. It was all over the place. This was his room. He expected me to stay in his room? He was crazy if he thought I’d be staying with him because we were mates. If he was here I’d probably slap him again. I hardly knew him and I couldn’t be trusted around him. I might attack him at the first sight of him shirtless again.

“No, no, no,” I stated. “I’m not staying here.”

Matthew looked at me bemusedly. “The Alpha has commanded it and it must be so.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “He will not dictate where I sleep or what I do,” I fumed. “Take me to another room.”

Matthew only nodded although he held a small grin on his face.

He opened one of the doors to the neighboring guest rooms and let me in. I flipped the lights on and was slightly disappointed that this room didn’t have a glass wall with a view. Although, it was just as beautiful. I tossed myself onto the huge king sized bed and moaned as the softness engulfed me.

A growl came from the door. Sebastian had growled at Matthew, who looked at him with raised brows and raised hands in surrender.

“Mine,” Sebastian growled. “Leave.”

Matthew didn’t need to be told twice. He left quickly, leaving me at the mercy of the big bad wolf.
