I always thought I would have a normal life. Go to school, get good grades, make friends, date, go to college, graduate, get married and have three adorable little children with a normal husband and a house with a white picket fence. Typical right?
So how did I end up laying here under the stars with my boyfriend? My vampire boyfriend?
You wouldn’t believe me if I told you, I wouldn’t have believed me. It’s not normal. The furthest thing from normal.
But that’s ok. That’s because life isn’t so normal. My life isn’t normal. It used to be before I met them. They changed my life the moment they stepped into Math class.
Heading for school was just like any other day. I woke up at an unGodly, did my daily routine and then waited for the bus like every other day.
Usually, my mornings consisted of me trying to tune out all of the noise of the people around me and drift off into la-la land for the duration of the ride to school. On occasion, someone is ballsy enough to attempt to talk to me, a big mistake, because generally results in me snapping and taking out my frustrations out on that poor individual.
Today, however, seems to be a good day, there isn’t anyone around. Allowing me to turn my music up to full blast and enjoy my morning ride to school, ‘today is going to be a good day.’ I think to myself.
‘Fuck today!’ I think angrily as I slam my locker shut. “UGH…” I bang my head against the locker.
“Sage, sweetheart, love muffin, hunnypie, babycakes, love of my life... You can’t afford any more brain damage.” My best friend Mel said to me in a playful tone.
I turned my head to glare at her, “shut up Mel..” Sighing, I slid down the lockers and sat on the floor.
“What’s wrong, sweetface?”
“Firstly, you have got to stop with these nicknames. Secondly, I had Mr. Fortune (For-Tune) for American Lit today.”
“Ew...that is harsh, girl.” Mari sat down next to me and patted my leg sympathetically.
“Who you telling… it’s only 3rd period and I have a killer headache.”
“Want some drugs?”
I snickered at Mel’s question. “Jeez, make it sound any worse why don’t you?”
“Oh hush and take the Advil Sage,” Mel pulled out her small bottle of Advil and handed it to me.
“Thanks, your the best.” I took the pills and handed her back the bottle, “let's get going. We have math next,”
“...Kill us now.”
I rolled my eyes, “it won’t be that bad..”
“Bullshit and you know it.”
“Shh let’s go!” I grabbed Mel’s hand and dragged her off to class.
Math class was just like always, loud. Everyone has finally woken up for the day and are now talking loudly amongst themselves. Great. I sigh, laying my head on my desk. Today has been completely boring and tiring. Grabbing my phone out my pocket I send a quick text to Mel.
Me: SAVE ME :(
The Gray to my Natsu: How?? We’re in the same class slowness
The Gray to my Natsu: Exactly
Me: Ugh...where’s Mr. B? It’s been like 10 mins since the bell
The Gray to my Natsu: Why would I know?? Do I look like his personal assistant?
Me: You’re an ass
The Gray to my Natsu: Only for you baby ;)
Me: Oh god lol stop
The Gray to my Natsu: Lol ok ok but seriously where is this man?
Me: I wish I knew ugh ..I'm taking a nap
The Gray to my Natsu: In the middle of class lol
The Gray to my Natsu: Sweet dreams baby lol
I laughed silently at Mel’s last message, god she’s so foolish sometimes but you have to love her. Looking over to where my best friend was sitting I saw her chatting with the girls around her table. I chuckled, we’re so different and yet we’re so similar.
I chuckled if I was anyone else I wouldn’t be able to explain to you how we’ve stayed friends all these years. Mel, is the social butterfly out of the two of us, well not really but she can talk more freely to other people than I can. I’m not necessarily anti-social but I can’t be around people for prolonged periods of time. I love being around and hanging out with my friends but I also need my own me time. Just some time for me to read and think to myself.
Even in the looks department Mel and I, are polar opposites. At least as of now, we are. We both used to be typical average looking girls before the start of the school year but mid-summer break Mel decided that she needed a change from her “regular” looks, she didn’t want to be a Plain Jane anymore so she made the drastic decision of cutting her waist-length honey blonde hair into a short pixie cut.
And to make her change even more prominent to the world, she dyed her blonde hair a bright, fiery red. Now my best friend was a cute, short red-headed ball of crazy. Honestly, it matched her personality completely. She even topped off her look with a pair of pretty smokey grey contacts. This girl looked every bit of intimidating and yet she was one of the friendliest, sweetest girls you could ever know.
I, on the other hand, am quite the Plain Jane and damned proud of it. It’s who I am and I embrace it wholeheartedly. I’m not now, nor will I ever be in the near future, bold enough like Mel to chop off my hair or even attempt to dye it. But secretly I’ve always wanted to have purple highlights. I’m never going to have them but hey, a girl can dream can’t she?
Laughing to myself, I shake my head and turn away from staring at my best friend. Now staring out the window I watched the clouds waiting for our teacher to walk in. ‘Such a beautiful day.’ I began spacing out letting my mind wander and the voices of my classmates growing quieter and quieter with each passing second. It felt like hours had gone by, my mind had wandered everywhere and nowhere all at the same time.
Only when my teacher dropped his textbooks on his desk had I realized his presence, not only me but everyone in the class had now stopped their idle chit-chat to now stare in front at our teacher.
“Thank you. Now that I have your attention, I would like to introduce your new classmates for the semester. Please, come in.” He gestured for whoever was outside of the classroom to walk in. “Class welcome the….”
