To say I was grumpy was an understatement.
Standing outside my ex’s home was not how I pictured seeing him again. Maybe down on his knees begging me for forgiveness, but not asking him if something had happened between him and my best friend.
I was upset at even the slightest chance that Caylee and Sebastian had done something together. If that was the case, I couldn’t forgive either of them.
I thanked my lucky stars that Rosie was standing by my side. There was no way I was going to confront Sebastian alone.
Rosie lifted her hand and knocked gently on the door. I remembered back to the last time I was here.
It wasn’t long before the door was pulled open from the other side. We weren’t met with Sebastian but surprisingly one of his friends, Jesse.
“Maisie?” He asked, mirroring our shocked expressions.
I crossed my arms and grumbled like a small child. I saw Rosie roll her eyes at me and answer in my place.
“Is Sebastian here?” She asked politely.
“Uh, yeah,” Jesse hesitated. He pulled the door back a few more inches to let Rosie and I slip through.
The place was completely covered in light. The light from the morning sun shone through the curtains, illuminating the whole room. It was just I remembered.
My throat went dry when I heard a voice from around the corner. “Jesse? Who was at the door?”
Sebastian came into full view, a sight for sore eyes. He was wearing only a towel around his waist, his washboard abs on view for all the see. His brown hair was wet and dripping with water and for a moment there I remembered running my fingers through it when he was doing delicious things to my body.
Rosie’s eyes were focused on the ceiling and Jesse had his back to his friend, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly. I however, was full on staring at Sebastian. His eyes met mine.
“Maisie?” His eyes lit up as well as a dashing smile.
I snapped out of daze and cleared my throat. “Rosie and I have a few questions to ask,” I said, trying to keep my eyes anywhere but him.
“Sure,” he said so casually. “Why don’t we sit down?” He gestured to the couch.
“Are you not going to put any clothes on?” I blurted out, still trying to avoid eye contact.
He smirked, that kind of smile that made my panties melt with just one look.
“Yeah, I’ll be right back. Make yourselves comfortable.”
We waited quietly in the living room as Sebastian changed into some clothes. The clothes however were nearly as bad as the towel. Sweat pants hung low on his hips, his torso still not covered. I knew it was a play to try and turn me on and I hated to admit that it was working.
“What’s this about?” Sebastian asked as he took a seat on the couch next to me. Very close.
I was afraid I would choke if I spoke so I lightly nudged Rosie to take the lead.
“Caylee has been acting strange,” she blurted out.
We both looked at each other, arguing in a best friend mind connection way.
In the corner of my eye I saw Sebastian’s shoulders sag.
Oh god. So, this did have something to do with Caylee.
Jesse was staring intensely at Sebastian. Obviously having one of their own best friend connection conversation things.
“She came over the day after I...”
“Broke my heart?” I questioned more harshly then I intended to. We both winced.
It was at that moment that the door swung back on its hinges. All four of us shot straight up out of seats. Theo strolled into the apartment as if he owned the place.
“Dude, have you ever heard of knocking?” Sebastian questioned annoyed.
“Maisie!” Theo completely ignited him and trotted over to me and pulled me into a big bear hug. “It’s so good to see you. This one has been a pain blabbering in about he misses you! Thank god you two are back together. ”
Sebastian answered the same time I did.
“Oh, we aren’t.”
I turned to face him, my eyes narrowed. “No, we won’t.”
There was an awkward silence in the room after that.
“Well,” began Theo. “The sexual tension sure is thick in the air today.”
“What? No it’s not! I mean, there isn’t any,” I stuttered.
“Yes it is,” agreed Rosie, taking a deep breath.
“I brought food!” Theo said excitedly. “Who’s hungry?”
“Me!” Rosie and Jesse said at the same time.
“Oh look at that,” Theo began. “I only have enough for three people. Guess we will go eat it in the bathroom!”
“What a great idea!” Rosie agreed and the three of the hurried away.
I was gob smacked. Rosie left me. She left me in the arms of the predator, and from the obvious look on his face I was the prey.
I didn’t want to take part in what our friends had planned so I averted my eyes from Sebastian to the couch. I didn’t even notice him approach from behind me until I felt his body warmth on my back.
“Do you remember the things we use to do on that couch?” He whispered seductively.
It sent shivers down my spine and I mentally cursed myself for letting him see just the affect he still had on me. I wanted him to know that I wasn’t going to cave in.
“Yes,” I said turning around to face him. He was closer than I expected. “You kicking me out has to be my favourite. ”
Sebastian sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, not creating any space between us. He smelt so good.
“Look Maisie, I made a lot of mistakes but you weren’t one of them. I was stupid for what I did and what I said.”
“I want you to say it,” I whispered, my eyebrows slightly furrowed.
“Say what?” He questioned.
“You know what.”
It was silent as we stared into each other’s eyes. Not one of us breaking contact.
If possible, he came even closer, forcing me to take a few steps back until my back hit the wall. He put his arms on either side of my head against the wall.
“Maisie. I was scared. Scared of my feelings for you and what you were doing to me. I took the opportunity and ran for the hills like a coward. But I’m not a coward anymore. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere. ”
I could feel his minty breath on my face. His eyes darted down to my parted lips, automatically causing me to lick them. I felt his hands make a fist in the wall beside me, as if he were trying to control himself.
He leaned in for the kiss.
“What happened with Caylee?”
My heart slammed in my chest.
“What happened with Caylee?”
“Nothing! Nothing happened with Caylee. She came over that day and confessed her feelings for me. She said how I deserved better than you. How I supposedly deserved her. ”
I let the breath out that I was holding in my lungs. I slightly pushed Sebastian’s bare chest back to create some space between us. I took a few more deep breaths of air.
Why would Caylee do such a thing? I thought she was my best friend. How and when did she start developing feelings for Sebastian and how was I so unaware of it?
When I turned around to face Sebastian again he had the biggest smile on his face.
“What? What are you smiling about?” I asked, slightly annoyed.
“You still care about me. ”
“Fuck Sebastian! Of course I still care about you! You don’t just stop loving someone overnight!”
Holy Shit. I said it. I just said I loved Sebastian and too his face! Oh god what was I thinking?!
“What did you just say?” Sebastian asked slowly.
I kept my mouth shut. I had no intention of repeating it. The only noise in the room at the time was the sound of my deep breaths.
It was too late before I noticed what was happening. Sebastian had his hard eyes set on me as he quickly made his way over.
Before I could interrupt, Sebastian’s hand landed on my cheek and he pulled me in for a kiss.
Our lips met and it was as if we were kissing for the first time. In that moment I only needed to breath Sebastian. The need for air left me mind as we continued to passionately kiss.
Sebastian pulled away.
“I love you too.”
