Thirteen: Great Food & Weird Metaphor

“Ashley, no!” Colton yells. But it’s too late. My hand already swings towards him and the palm of my hand is now in contact with Matthew’s cheek, hard, making my hands stinging very bad.

I look around the room, people already has their gazes towards me. The room already fall into an almost silence as I glare at him who's now also glaring at my way. Tears swell in my eyes and I move my feet into a run, storming out of the room as people glancing and whispering.

I keep running, away from the hotel, until my leg feels sore because of running with my heels on. I stop from the running, looking at my surroundings as I breathing quickly.

My eyes land on a diner and I quickly walk towards it. I open the door and a bell rings. The sounds of heels clicking is the only thing I heard through the vacant place as I walk into one of the booth. I sit there and do a controlled breathing.

“Hello, can I help you?” I gasp as I look up at the lady in shock. She just stand there with a little book in her hand as she smiles kindly at me. "I'm sorry if I scared you."

I quickly gather myself up and smile. "It's okay."

So, some food to lighten up my fucked up mood? Sounds great.

“Uh, do you have some pancakes and smoothies?”

“Sure. Do you want me to go and take it for you?”

“Uh, yes, please.” She nods a little as she writes down my order.

“Okay. Your order will be here in 15.” She smiles, and then walk away. Sighing, I let my face falls into my the palms of my hands. I let out a groan and lift my face up from my hands.

God, I’ve never been this mad and embarrassed before. What should I do? I just slapped Matthew Williams who’s probably one of the popular kids at school.

How can I deal with him later at school? He would probably already telling his friends this thing and would probably already planning on killing me! Or maybe just beat me up till I’m gone into a coma!

“Here they are, miss. Blueberry pancakes and strawberry smoothie, our best dishes.” The lady smiles, putting the dish and glass onto the table carefully.

“Thank you.” I say gratefully.

“You’re welcome. Is there anything else I can do?” She asks, her hands behind her back as she waits for my answer. I shake my head slightly. “No, thank you.”

“Okay. Just shout out my name if you need something.” I look at her name tag. Delilah. I bring my gaze back to her face and smile. “Okay.” She gives me one last smile and leave me alone with my food.

I averted my gaze to my pancake, and all of the disturbing thought suddenly vanish from my head. I dig into the yummy and soft looking pancake and shove it into my mouth.

A little moan accidentally escape past my lips, makes me stop for a moment, looking around the place to make sure no one heard it since this place is quiet AF.

I keep digging and digging, until nothing left on the plate. I put down the fork and spoon and drink down the smoothies. I keep drinking, sometimes biting on the straw as I look out the window at the vacant street boringly.

Suddenly, my phone rings, makes me jump on my seat and quickly take my phone out of my purse. Colton. I quickly tap on the answer button and hold the phone close to my ear.

“Ah, thank god.” Colton, on the other line, letting out a sigh of relief. I just sit on my seat, confused. “Hello?”

Why does he sounds so worried about me? Oh, right. I just storm out of the gala and didn’t tell anyone where I am right at this time.

“Ashley, where are you? We’re so worried about you.”

“Oh, I’m at a diner close to the hotel.”

“Wait there, I’ll be there in 5.”

I end the call and put my phone back into my purse and take some money out of it. I walk towards the cashier and see the previous waitress behind the cashier.

“Hello, miss. Left already?”

“Yeah, my brother would be here in a few minute to pick me up. Here.” I hold out the money. “Just keep the change.” She takes it, smiling gratefully a me. “Thank you, miss.”

“You’re welcome.” I give her a little smile and walk out of the diner, just realized the air out of the place freezing like the Arctic pole. I rub my hands against my bare arms, trying to keeping my body warm, but not working out really well for me.

I keep standing close to the diner door, teeth chattering because of the cold breeze keeps blowing at my way, until I see Colton running towards me. Worries covering his whole face as he runs faster towards me. He stops and pull me into a hug. I stiffen at the sudden move, but relaxes after a few seconds. He lets go of me and stare at me with a frown.

“Sophie, I thought you were kidnapped.”

“Of course I’m not. And if someone tried to kidnap me, they would already lying on this cold hard pavement now.” I smirk, and make me receive a light chuckle from him. “Come on, mom and dad already waiting for us at the hotel.”

“Okay.” I smile, my teeth still chattering against each other and I try to keep it still but the cold air doesn't help. He notices it and quickly take off his suit jacket.

"Colton, you don't have to."

"Well I have to, I don't want you to get sick." He puts his suit jacket over my shoulder and I tighten it around my body, feeling the warmness of the jacket enveloping me.

"Let's go."

I nod my head and we begin to walk, side by side. As we walk, Colton says, “I know you’re mad at him. But you can’t just ignore my phone calls.” I turn my head to him that already frowning at me. I frown back at him. “You just called me once.”

He looks at me in disbelief, eyes widening as I just grow another head. ” I already called you about 20 times for goodness sake!”

“Really?” I look at him in disbelief and confusion. I take my phone out of my purse and check the notifications. Damn, he’s right.

“Sorry, I guess I’m too occupied by my own meals.” I shrug.

“Why don’t you ask me to join you?” He asks, pouting a little.

“Because I was mad at you before I even mad at him.”

“Don’t be mad at me because I was kissing my girlfriend.”

“Sorry about that. I don’t know what has gotten into me back then.” I sigh quietly.

“That’s okay. The most important thing is you’re fine.”

We keep walking in silence, until I break it.

“I guess agreeing to this mission is a mistake.” I stare at my shoes, suddenly feeling all sad.

“Because this kind of job is an impossibility for me to finish. And, I can’t even stand to get any closer to him anymore. It hurts me to hear those shitty words flies out from his mouth.” And I don’t know why.

“Ah, don’t feel bad like that. I know, sooner or later he would have his knees to the ground, begging for your forgiveness of those shitty words he throws from his mouth to you.”

I scoff at his words full of bull crap. “Trust me, he won’t. From the way he said those words, I know he won’t ever say apology to me, let alone begging for my forgiveness until his knees falls to the ground.” I smile bitterly at the thought he does that. Impossible if that would happen ever in this lifetime.

“I bet he will. No one ever step his foot onto the one and only Sophie Reynolds but they will give their feet to you.” I turn my head and look at him with my eyes pop out. Is he even serious? Though if it’s a joke, it’s still creepy as fuck. Who the hell even want to give their feet to someone else?

“The hell? What are you talking about? You sounds fucking creepy and mental.”

He stares at me for a second, don't know what to say until he opens his mouth. “Don’t you get it? I mean-”

“Yeah, yeah. I know what you mean. But still, that metaphor is freaking creepy. Couldn’t you think of anything else that makes any sense? and less creepier?”

“Let me try.” He looks up at the dark, cloudy sky, thinking as he taps his finger on his chin until his face lights up a little.

“No one will ever lay a finger on you. Or else, their fingers will got off from their hands.” I look at his serious-looking face, eyes wider than before in shock and fright.

“Colton, do you have mental issues or what?”

“I don’t know. My mind's getting weird since Matthew yelled at you. It feels like I want to beat him up until he really is passed away.” He looks at nothing angrily, his hands already turns into fists. I nod once, already make up my mind about my previous question. “Yep, you definitely do have an issues.”

“No, I’m not! I just care you. I don’t want you to get hurt like the way you were by me.”

I laugh a little at him. “Colton, just chill, bro. I’m just kidding.”
