Prologue

Angelina's PoV

I picked up my bag when the class was over and strode outside with Ryan following me.

"Angelina, you forgot this." He caught up with me and showed me my pen.

"Oh. Thanks. I can't live without it." We laughed together and proceeded towards the lockers.

"You have to meet that nerd guy, you know." He said and I winced at the reminder of the bet I made with the rest of our friends.

"It's a very bad idea. I should just forget about all of you and the bet." I said stopping in the hallways and Ryan bumped into me.

"Oops. Sorry about that... Angelina, you have already made the bet. Now, you should try to win it. I don't want to lose a friend like you." Ryan said.

"Yeah, so do I. But the problem is how am I gonna win the bet?" I turned and said in worry.

Ryan looked behind me at something and grinned.

"I think you should at least try." He said, grabbing me by the shoulders and turned me around.

I looked at the students in front of me and nothing unusual caught my eye. Then I saw him.

He was standing near the lockers, with a book in his hand and was very busy reading the book. Some of the strands of his hair fell on his forehead while the others were properly tamed. Even with the book in his hand, he didn't look like the nerd which students called him.

"It's him. Go!" Ryan whispered and pushed me a little towards him. I gave Ryan a it-can't-be-him look but he nodded at me.

He was staring intently at the book, with an eyebrow raised, like he was challenging the book to test his knowledge or to tell him something new. I realized he was not the usual nerd I was used to see. He was different.

My feet moved on their own accord and in a few seconds, I found myself standing a few inches away from him.

I cleared my throat.

No reaction from him.

I cleared my throat again.

No reaction again.

He ran a hand through his hair and continued to read the book, ignoring my sheer existence. I stood on my toes to see what was so interesting in his book that he didn't even heard me.

Suddenly, his hand lifted again, I didn't know how, but his finger accidentally collided with my left eye.

"Ow!" I gasped and his eyes found me. He grabbed me by the shoulders to steady me while I tried to open my eye and my right hand settled on his hard chest. It was an accident but it hurt.

"I am sorry, I didn't see you." He grabbed my hand from my left eye. "Let me see it." He said.

He blew softly at my eye with his beautiful mouth and I blinked a couple of times then finally opened my eyes in full. I saw him staring at me with worry in his Gray eyes.

"Is it okay?" He asked. I nodded in a dazed condition. He nodded and then stepped away. He smiled a little at me and then began to walk away.

"Hey!" I called out. He stopped and turned back to me.

"I-I-" I babbled and winced when I couldn't form a sentence. When I was babbling, he looked all the more comfortable standing in front of me. I closed my eyes a for a second then blurted what I found first in my brain.

"Jayden, I have problems with Calculus." I said and nodded at myself. He frowned and then glanced at his left hand's wrist where he wore his watch. But thanks to his intelligence, he understood by himself what I wanted him to do.

"I don't think I have much time..." He stared at me when all I did was bit my lip, waiting for him to complete his sentence.

"But I think I can manage, Angelina." My name rolled off his tongue and he smirked at me. For a second, his eyes dropped to my lips then he rolled his eyes quickly and looked away.

"You know me?" I blurted out before I could think. I was a little surprised to know that he knew my name already. He stared into my eyes and nodded slowly.

"Everyone does." He shrugged. No need to be surprised, definitely my name in the lowest grades had caught his attention.

"So, Angelina I will see you tomorrow, for calculus." He smiled and ran his hand through his hair, distracting me some more. With the book in his hand, he walked away leaving me staring at his broad back and with a loudly thudding heart.

OpheliaJones: This story took a different kind of spin on the "normal girl lives with definitely not normal guy" plot.
