Meeting

"So this is the place," I stare at the huge colonial house in front of me. I check the address that my mom wrote on a piece of paper one more time:

'Benjamin von Adalwulf

69 Maplewood Ct.'

After a parent association meeting, Ms. Willow, the Board of Education president, asked my mom if I could tutor her "dear" son. My mom then gave me her contact information to see if I wanted to take the job. At the time, it seemed like a harmless tutoring request. I had a couple of tutoring jobs that I took on in order to pay for my dream trip to France. So I thought some extra cash couldn't hurt.

"Hello, is this Ms. Willow?" I ask on the telephone.

"Yes this is she."

"Hi, I'm Casey Forest. You talked to my mother at the parent association meeting about offering me a tutoring job."

"Yes, Cassandra," I wince when she says my full name, "So nice of you to call. I heard that you were an excellent tutor from many parents. I wanted to know if you could tutor my Benjamin."

"Sure, and you can call me Casey. What do you want me help him out with?"

"Well Cassandra, "she emphasizes my full name, "Everything."

"Everything?"

"Benjamin is having a little difficulty in school right now. He's only been in America for a year now, and he needs a little assistance in his studies. I know that this is a ridiculous request, but I am willing to pay you 50 dollars an hour if you can come Monday through Friday from 4-7."

My ears perked up at the amount of money that she was willing to pay me to be her son's tutor. I would be making more money tutoring her kid than all of the kids I was tutoring now. If I tutor her kid for the rest of the year, I'll be able to finance my entire trip and lots of extra spending cash.

"I'll do it," I answer without a moment's hesitation.

"That's wonderful! Can you start this Thursday?"

"Sure. I'll be there on Thursday 4 o' clock sharp."

"Thank you, Cassandra. I'll see you then."

"Goodbye."

Right after my phone call with Ms. Willow, I quickly dialed the other parents, and told them with great sorrow that I could not tutor their children anymore. Call me greedy, but I need to clear my schedule in order to have time to tutor Benjamin, and to study.

I take a deep breath before I knock on the large door in front of me. A gorgeous middle-aged woman wearing a baby blue suit greets me at the door.

"Hello, Cassandra please come in," she warmly welcomes me into her house, "I'm Ms. Willow. Why don't you two study in the basement? I will show you the way."

I follow her as she leads me around her house and then down the basement. Oh. My. God. My mouth fell open to the sight in front of me. There is a mini movie theater right in front of me. How rich are these people?

"The basement is split up into a media center and the study. You two will both be in here," She opens the room to a contemporary designed room with simple furniture consisting of only desks, chairs, and shelves, "Benjamin will join you in a minute. Why don't you sit down while you wait."

I sit myself on a wheelie chair and unpack some things in my bag as Mrs. Willow leaves the room.

After five minutes of waiting, the door finally opens, and I see the most adorable guy I have ever seen in my entire life. It wasn't like he was a little kid. I mean, he looked like he was in high school, but there was something about him that reminded me of a puppy with his big brown eyes and shaggy brown hair. We stare at each other until I finally break the moment by saying, "Benjamin?"

"Cassandra?" he asks shyly.

He makes me want to run up to him, and give him a hug.

"Call me Casey," I smile at him to break the ice.

"Call me Benji," he smiles and sits right next to me.

For someone who has only been in this country for a year, I can hear no hint of an accent.

"Benji," I test his name, "So, Benji, what grade are you in?"

"Sophomore, you?"

Two-year difference.

"Senior. Your mom wasn't very descriptive about what I should help you out with, so what subject do you want to go over?"

"Everything," he says nonchalantly.

"Everything?" I asked him incredulously.

"Everything," he answers me with a cute smile, "and she's not my mother. She's just my guardian."

"Sorry about that, but you need help with all of your subjects?" I squeak.

"Yep. I'm failing all my subjects," he answers casually.

My jaw drops in shock. I'm getting second thoughts on this job. But, I 'm not one to quit.

"Okay then, why don't we start with math? Are there any specific questions that you want to ask me?"

"Yep, do you have a boyfriend?"

"Excuse me?" I sputter.

"Boyfriend?"

"I don't see how that is relevant to math or any of your business," I say defensively, "Why don't we start with polynomials?" I try to change the subject and flip through the math textbook right next to me to distract me.

"It's an innocent question. I thought there would be no harm in asking," he pouts.

Why must he be so adorable? I can't resist his puppy dog eyes.

"Oh, fine," I give in and see that his eyes light up, "No."

He smiles grows wider from my answer. Blushing, I hide my face into the textbook, so he can't see my embarrassment.

For the next hour, he relentlessly asks me questions about my non-existent love life.

"What's your ideal type?"

"Have you kissed a guy?"

"Do you have anyone you like right now?"

"Edward or Jacob?"

"Why don't we do this," I plan to make this session productive no matter what, "you can stop asking me questions, and I can start asking the questions."

"Okay," he answers dejectedly.

"Can you solve this problem?" I point to a problem in the textbook.

For the next hour, we really make some progress until the questions start again.

"Do you like to study?" No.

"Do you like tutoring?" No.

"Have you had sex with anyone before?"

At that question, I explode, "If you aren't going to take this seriously, then I'm just going to leave."

"I'm sorry. I took it a little too far," he sulks, "I promise that I will concentrate."

After my outburst, we continue with the rest of the session without any more personal questions.

"This may sound a little rude," I say before wrapping up the lesson, "but why do you need a tutor? You might not be in honors or A.P. classes, but you seem to pick up everything really quickly when we go over things together."

"I guess you're a great tutor," he shrugs with a charismatic smile.

"I don't think that I have anything to do with this. I don't understand why you are failing every class when I know that you can ace any class with flying colors."

"Classes don't interest me."

"I think that's a load of bull," I tell him.

"You can think what you want," he shrugs.

"Why did you come to America?" I ask him curiously.

"To meet someone," he answers with a mysterious smile.

"Who?"

"Someone special he answers," he leans in closer to me.

My heart skips a beat and I ask quietly, "Have you met the person yet?"

"Yeah," I could feel his breath on my face. My heart is beating in my chest so quickly in anticipation of a possible kiss with my new student. He leans into kiss me, and I close my eyes. But, the phone rings to break the magic of the moment.

I pick up my phone, and hear my mother asking me about when I would be home tonight. I see his head slump at the interruption.

"I'm on way home right now," I tell her and quickly hang up the phone.

"I should get going," I say awkwardly, "See you next week?"

"Bye," he says, and I quickly run out of the house before anything else could happen.
