Last Miracle

“Everything must have a balance in this world. For there is no light without darkness and no love without hate.” - Rhaya Ailnaught, Tender of Souls; High Priestess

The elderly man rubbed the bright blue scales of a older dragon as he wondered who the next protectors of these ancient creatures was. He pondered on his own life as he patted the giant creature’s neck once more before hobbling away to the next Dragon whose scales were a bronze metallic color.

‘You are worried about the next successor old friend.’ A deep rumbling voice thundered through the elderly man’s mind as he closed his eyes and nodded his head slowly on his frail neck.

“I worry that they are not here yet. They should have arrived weeks ago.” He glanced at the darkened skies as he spoke aloud. The dry rustle of scales rubbing together resounded in the quiet valley as the creatures moved restlessly. Using his cane, he shuffled to the cavern like home the dragons carved out for the guardians thousands of years ago, with a small pool next to it for bathing. “Perhaps it is too soon, yet.” The old priest muttered to himself but a nagging feeling settled over him as he frowned and peered once again at the night sky.

In distant lands a youth was carrying out an errand for his mother when a brutal swing of a bear paw came out of the brush; knocking the poor boy down the narrow path he had always climbed successfully before. A low malicious chuckle followed as the paw eased from view and horses nickered before the sounds of hoofs pounding away rang out in the dead of night.

The world of Nuilia was no longer safe, the Dragons finally became aware of that fact when the last priest successor died. They needed someone to guide their young. Priest Reuben was reaching his limit, as his health was slowly but steadily declining. They needed to miraculously find a priest or priestess to guide and govern over their young that have yet to be bonded.

They searched the wild and beautiful lands of Nuilia for a telltale sign of a born successor. Months passed and they wailed in despair at finding one in time. Finally one of the Elderly unbound bronze Dragons stepped forward with a fairytale. A wild tale of a world beyond their reach but held a spark of life and light that they seek. This world held the final successor but the Elder Dragons needed to pour most of their energy into the bronze Dragon for his power to reach that far.Endlessly the searched the wild and beautiful lands of Nuilia for a telltale sign of a born successor.
