Chapter 1

First Chapter

Ahh, the sun is shining, not a dark cloud in the sky, looking like a piece of fresh blue-colored cotton candy. Unfortunately, I can’t take it all in. Not in here at least. Not in some place where I can only leave for a short time, not in a place where if I got out for any special reason, I’d be swiftly annihilated. Well, I didn’t know at the time, of course. I thought my grandma just hated me. I would only be able to leave the house to go to school, or go with her someplace, or somewhere with a big crowd of people. I never really understood why I couldn’t go outside in the sun, alone, taking it all in. That might’ve helped with a lot of things. Maybe it would have made me more prepared for everything that was going to happen. “Ray, Sweetie, I’m going out to buy some things, do you want to come?” My grandma said to me, sweetly. I looked up to her muddy brown eyes and curly hair that seemed to be made from darkness. “Sorry I don’t think I can go, I’m kinda tired.” From doing nothing but staying in this house, I thought to myself. “Oh..ok, hope you feel better.” She left my room as fast a she came in. I was alone in my house again. I couldn’t call my friends, as my grandmother forbids it. She says she’s heard too many horrible stories of children getting killed by their own friends. While I say that rarely ever happens. But who cares, I don’t think they would come anyway. My grandma later returned, and she hit me with a surprise, “Hey, want to go to the beach?” I was surprised by the answer, I loved the beach more than anything. “Are you kidding? Of course! Thank you so much grandma!” She laughed light-heartedly, but her eyes kept shifting, like she was thinking if she made the right decision in doing this. We got into the car after getting our things and went straight to the beach. Once we got on the beach, I ran straight to the ocean. My grandma said to be careful, but she seemed preoccupied with something else entirely. I swam against the current and back to the shore like five times before my grandma came behind me and grabbed my shoulders. I looked in her eyes and it looked like she’d been crying. “I’m sorry, my sweet Ray.” Then she pushed me with immense force, then I felt the current absorbing me.
