Chapter 33: Alley Cat

Rebbeca drove to Critters Pet Shop. She walked inside and found Bella behind the counter. “You rang?”

Bella looked up at her. Her face was covered in bruises, which she tried to hide with makeup.

“What happened to you?”

“What do you think? I’m sure you know who I am?”

“Yeah, I do. What did you want?”

“I wanted to talk about a sore subject.”

“The Guardians of Kernsville.”

“Because you’re Alley Cat and I’m Dark Vengeance,” Rebbeca replied. “I should be taking you to jail right now, not talking about my team.”

“And how do you know, anyway?”

“Danny,” Bella replied. “He didn’t tell me, I guessed. I asked you to come because I’m done being a villain.”

“So, I’m supposed to expect you’ll be on your best behavior?”

“Retsacnal beat me up and then, threw me out because I said I was done.”

“So, what? Do you want a medal?”

“I want to join your team.”

“Absolutely not.”

“I want to get back at Retsacnal. Rebbeca, I thought you of all people would understand that.”

“I do. I’m just done working with people that claim to have changed.”

“Yeah, well I’m not double crossing you, like he was.”

“What are you talking about?”

“You didn’t know?”

Rebbeca looked puzzled.

“Danny was telling Whitney everything you told him.”

“I’m not surprised,” Rebbeca sighed. “Wait, he didn’t tell everyone?”

“No. I only know because I’ve been spying on Whitney.”

“Does anyone else know?”

“No. Whitney likes to keep us in the dark.”

“Look, after everything that’s happened with Danny, I’m not sure who to trust anymore.”

“You don’t have to trust me to believe me,” Bella said.

“I loved Danny more than I trusted him, and look where that got me.” Rebbeca shrugged.

“If you won’t trust me, than at least look into this.” Bella handed her a piece of paper.

“What is this?”

“The address to the building we think Coal Dust is in.”

“Who is ‘we’?”

“A friend, who, just like me, wants to help and not hurt people. Is there any way I can change your mind?”

“I’ll let you know.” She walked to the door. “Thanks for the tip.” Rebbeca left and drove back to Headquarters.
