“Wh-what's going t-to happ-ppen to me?” he was quiet a moment and then he gathered me closer to him and stood up with me in his arms. I was start-ing to really feel the numbness and I didn't like it. “We are going to get you to Gracie, and we are going to figure this out okay. That is what is going to happen.” he whispered as I hung limply in his arms. I was freezing cold, and even though he was a vampire, strangely, he felt warm against my exposed arms and skin. “Get in touch with Ortho in case we need him please.” Deric whispered. “I'll pay whatever cost he asks for. I cannot lose her.” he was answered in silence, but I knew that his father had nodded to him. Even if the man hated me (and I was almost positive that he was the one who through me out the window of my own room) I knew that he would do anything for his son, no matter what it was. His son's life and happiness was more important than my life and I wasn't sure why Deric would even try so hard to protect me when I was going to just get hurt no matter what. I was accident prone. I always had been and always would be. Even if he managed to save me tonight, I was going to be dead some-where down the road.

I jumped at a noise and sat up. I looked around and breathed shakily as I uncovered my legs. I didn’t see anything but I was still scared. For the last week, I had been hearing things around the old house, but it wasn’t the regular noises. It was someone walking around late at night when everyone was asleep noises, scratching on my door noises and every time I got up to look, there was no one there. The sound of someone rummaging through my stuff as if they were looking for things in my room and when I look, there is no one. Call me crazy, put me in the nutt-house, do whatever, but I hear it, and then there is nothing. I often found things missing and it was starting to scare me.

“Dad?” I questioned quietly and slowly went to the door. Maybe it was one of my family members. It was Halloween season. Maybe they were trying to scare me and mess with me just playing around. “Sebastian?” I looked at the door and shuddered. It was opened and I knew for a fact that it was closed when I went to bed earlier. I breathed shakily and opened the door all the way and started down the hall to his room. There was no one in the hall and it was really starting to freak me out.

I know I heard someone in the hall.

Thunder sounded and I jumped with a quiet squeak. I wrapped my arms around myself and heard someone behind me. I turned around and found a shadow moving quickly away. I stumbled back and then I was running toward Sabastian’s room. I ran in and closed the door quickly. Lightning flashed and I turned to look at Sebastian. He was sitting up and when he saw me he got up and started moving toward me. He looked so scary doing it. I cowered in the corner as thunder shook the ground.

“Sam?” he whispered. “Sam, you scared me…” he stopped as he actually looked at me. He took another step toward me and I ran to him. He wrapped his arms around me and I buried my face in his shoulder as I shook. “What is it?” he wrapped his arms around me, very serious now. “Sam, what’s wrong?”

“I’m scared.” I answered in a whisper and he pulled back to look at me.

“It’s just a thunder storm, you never-“

“There was someone in the hall.” Tears filled my eyes. “H-he… was in my room when I woke up… I know it. The door is… n-never open and it was…” I buried my face in his shoulder again. “I’m so scared…” I sobbed and he wrapped his arms around me tightly. He kissed my head and then led me to the bed. He sat me down and pushed me to arm’s length to look at me. He ran his hands over my arms trying to comfort me. His green eyes watched me closely.

Though he wasn’t my real brother, for as long as I have known him, Sebastian has been there for me. Even after his mom and my dad got married last year he has been here for me like I was his real sister. He has protected me from all the little things in the last year and a half and I loved him so much for it, but right now, all those little things were nothing compared to this right now. I was so scared right now that I could barely talk and I really wanted to curl up and hide.

“Stay here Sammie.” He said softly and I started shaking my head. “No, stay here. I’m going to go check it out.” Lightning flashed and thunder sounded loudly outside his window. I jumped and looked around the room. “Shh…” he made me look at him. “Stay here okay.” I sobbed but nodded and let him go.

He stood and went to the door. He opened it and looked back at me. I curled up on the bed as he turned back and went out.

I wasn’t scared of the dark, being almost fifteen, I had learned to not be afraid of the dark, and I was not scared of thunder storms or rain or anything like that, but this was scaring me. It had been going on a week. I’d hear things and I’d stick it out in my room, but this time I was too scared to stay alone, so I came into her and I was even more terrified. Not only for me, but for my brother because he was out there, where I knew that I saw something….

The door started to creak open and slowly I sat up. I breathed shakily and watched the door. I could see the hand on the knob as it opened a little more. I sobbed as the person started to come in. All I could see was the person’s leg, and I knew it wasn’t Sebastian because this leg was not in baggy, red and black plaid, pajama pants. I drew my legs to my chest and wrapped my arms around myself as I cried harder.

“Sebastian.” I cried.

Suddenly the hand left the door knob and the leg moved away from the door. I breathed hard as I watched for him to come in, but he never did. Instead, Sebastian came in and closed the door. He took one look at me and was moving quickly to me.

“Hey.” He said as he sat on the bed in front of me. I threw my arms around him and cried into his shoulder. “Hey. It’s okay. There isn’t anyone-“

“He tried to come in.” I looked at him. I shook as I looked at the door and then back at him. He took my face in his hands. He didn’t look like he believed me and it upset me because I knew what I saw. Slowly, I looked down and my shaking hands and took a shaky breath to steady myself. I wiped away my tears and looked at Sebastian again. “C-can I just stay with you tonight?” I asked quietly.

“Yeah.” He stroked my hair out of my face and pulled me close. We lay down and I curled up against his chest. I shivered and he drew the blanket over us. He rubbed my arm and kissed my head. “Get some sleep Sammie.” He yawned. I nodded and closed my eyes.

Needless to say, I had a sleepless night.

The plot was good which is what kept me reading the whole story. I think the author shows promise. They just need to tighten up on their skills to really get it going
