Adventure / Action

That night changed everything the minute the gun was shot and the noise of the echoing bullet went through the near to empty house. New house, new family, new life. My life in Minnesota ended when he fired that trigger.

Four hours earlier

“Mum Im home!” I walked over to my mum who was cooking in the kitchen. Matt wasn’t home from the bar yet, which is good but also bad. Matt Wilmer, my mum’s abusive boyfriend. This is his house but every time we try to leave it never works. “How was school?” She asked kissing my head. “It was good, Mia wants me to go shopping with her tonight but once again i told her I cant..” I sigh getting sad.

I never get to go out because of Matt, I tried once. Matt’s friends were over at that time and I made it to the drive way. At the end his fried grabbed me and Matt gave me a broken rib. Well three broken ribs.. “I’m sorry, you know I would let you go if I had a say in the manner.” She hugged me tightly. I hugged back and then let go. “Let me go clean the house up real quick for when he gets home. I don’t want him to get after us, mostly you.” I walked over and picked up the beer bottles.

1 hour and 1/2 later we were both done with a spotless house. We were done just in time because Matt walked in stumbling. “Im home.” He slurred running this fingers through his black hair. His blue eyes were stoned and red showing that he was smoking Weed. He sat down in his chair and started to eat the meal mum prepared for him.

“House and dinner looks amazing, you ladies did a great job.” He smirked showing his white teeth. He finished up so I took his plate and cleaned it with the other dishes. I walked up the old noisy steps to my room where I locked the door. I started doing my homework which was Chemistry. I was in the middle of studying what Iron’s properties are I started to hear fighting. I quietly walked into the hall where I heard a plate breaking and yelling going on.

I immediately ran downstairs where i was my mum passed out but still breathing. I looked over at Matt horrified which turned to anger, “What did you do?!” I yelled at him. I looked down to see his hand all bloody. “You son of a...” I started to yell before he slapped me hard across the face. I leaned back against the table as he continued to lean closer to me.

“You guy’s are worthless.” He spat right in my face. “You guy’s never respected me, you guy’s did nothing right.” He yelled. Im tired of him getting away with this! “We did everything for you! You treated us with no respect, you made us feel as if we are slaves!” I fired back at him which ended up with me on the ground holding my jaw where he punched. I moved my jaw back and forth glad to know it isn’t broken. He walked away and made me believe as if it was over but he only came back with a pistol.

“I should have done this a while ago..” He loaded it but as he did so the police stormed in before he could do anything. “Put the gun down!” One officer yelled raising his weapon. Instead Matt quickly grabbed me and put the gun to me, all the officers got more vicious with him. From there on was a blur of the stand off. 10 minutes or so later he quickly let me go and shot my mum... He got my mum in the chest.

“Mum!!” I cried out. Then before I knew it a gun shot hit Matt in the arm. Matt aimed with his other arm and hit me in the leg before I knew it and another place which I couldn’t tell. I started to see black but before I could I was able to see him go down with the single click of a gun. Then for me, the blackness consumed me as I closed my eye lids only to hear sirens for a minute then nothing at all.

re8622: The Last Exodus quickly grabbed my attention. Almost as soon as I started reading the story, I couldn't put it down. I found that the ideas the author put forth were very thought provoking given the turmoil we have seen gradually rise over the last several years. I felt that I could understand th...

Cliuin: A great fantasy story what follows a young half-race on his joourney.

Robert D. Stanley: I really liked this story. The main character was very well fleshed out (so much so that I sometimes felt sorry for her friends with how little trust she had in them) and your descriptive writing was very good. There are, however a few points I'd like to critique.1. The dual PoVs were interesting...

Maja1111: I particularly loved the vivid dialogues. Also, the atmosphere throughout the story is so specific, with a touch of a mystery. Really enjoyed reading it.

William Elliott Kern: Interesting Story, with Jacob, the second Son of Baron Ironwood to learn his duties, provide his numbers and prepare for marriage to Anna......Along the way, the wise Monk, Francis came to Ironwood, filled the ears of Jacob with hope and positive direction, a gift for Jacob well needed. The Stor...

NancyRichFoster: This second book of the Anmah Series was as awesome as the first story, I disagree with spare runner. The names were ordinary names with different spellings, which I for one loved. I am now going to read the third book in this amazingly awesome story!
