Smart and fun take on the coming of age tale

This is a smart, funny, and brutally honest YA novel that reinvents adolescent sexual awakening as a metaphor for discovering magical powers. Before meeting the brooding Sedge, Valen is the archetypal school misfit. She embodies the awkwardness and isolation of puberty, offering a very human side to the paranormal experience as she undergoes deep and often disturbing changes on her journey to unlocking the mystery of who she really is. I highly recommend this book for all ages because, let's face it, those awkward teenage years never really stop, and who didn't wish they had magical powers to see them through it?

Note to the author: I'm really looking forward to seeing how Valen’s story will end, and I love a juicy love-triangle!

Horror Pick n Mix

Fans of the supernatural, psychological, and slasher horror genres will not be disappointed by this compilation of short stories. From the characters to plot to overall atmosphere, each story is chillingly executed and builds suspense to a shattering crescendo. The only criticism I have is the run-on sentence structure. It can be hard to digest, and sometimes shorter sentences can have more impact. But other than that, this has been a gem of a find and I look forward to reading more of the writer's work.
